M4 or NSX

Just curious what the opinions are of people on whether the new NSX will be an alternative to the M4.. I'm on the wait list for the NSX, but am pulling my order for the M4, mainly because of its increased practicality (ie- rear seats for my kids). However, every now and then I wonder if I am doing the right thing.. I know, different cars, different price points, but they are not THAT different in the end.

My guess is that the NSX will cost somewhere between $30-50K more than a loaded M3/M4. They're different types of cars. I think the new NSX will be a 911/R8 competitor.

No matter what Acura may say, the NSX is hardly a Ferrari competitor

So the consensus is that the NSX will spank the M4 performance wise ?? I suppose that's what I'm really after here.. (the R8 looks like a dog, IMHO, even though I like Audi's)

I would hope so!!! for the money and for the useless factor of a supercar. We are buying a legit daily driver with killer performance

Don't forget: the NSX is (or at least was) a two-seater.

Cheers.

Apparently the Acura guys are talking about importing the Honda NSX nose from the Japan version of the car, and installing it on the US NSX, since their grill looks hella-better.. (No, it doesn't change the A to an H, since those are on the hood, so it's actually a valid part swap that won't make the car look ghetto)

I personally do not think there is any relevance here but what do I know.

Prices are so different, euro vs import, etc etc

Just buy whatever you like, as to NSX pricing and performance, EVERYTHING is speculation right now as Acura has been talking about this car forever and majority of the NSX owners don't even want to think about it just yet. Too early....

So is your question asking if the NSX is a viable alternative for the M4 in terms of performance since we're ignoring price and practicality?

There are plenty of 100k+ purpose-built sports cars out there that will outperform an M3/M4, so this car won't bring anything new to the table in that area nor change the status quo in that regard. Add the fact that it won't be on the market for a year or so after the F8x and that makes it even more of a stretch.

I'm sure it'll be a great car, but it is only tangentially relevant, and probably not on the minds of most people shopping the M3/M4.

That's a silly thing to say.. the R8 is ridiculous when viewed from any angle except full front or full rear.. but then again, taste is subjective

Auto magazines were throwing prices anywhere from 110k to 140-150k.. NSX is going to be atleast 40-50k more then a base M4, not to mention in a different league of cars (NSX is more of R8/i8/911 Turbo competitor). 0-60 times for the NSX should be around 2.9-3.3 seconds. If money and practility (lack of back seats) aren't an issue I'd stick with the NSX without a doubt, not really a fair comparison between the two.

The NSX is coming to production. My dealer has a list as well, an last time I checked is expecting a 2016 release. Not sure if that means it will be a 2016 MY or 2017 MY.

Exactly same thing with my dealer. It's a definite.

However, the impracticality (or lack of rear seats) will undoubtedly kill it in my wife's eyes until the kids are off to college
