Tyres !

Evening chaps.

Have done a few searches but nothing that recent came up.

Need some new tyres on the car. I have run flats at the moment and the general consensus seems to be to swap them for non RFT. However, looking over on the F30 forum, newer RFT seem to be an improvement on old RFT.

Anyway, going for non RFTs. So far i've found the below seem to be recommended:

Continental 5P
Falken 453
Goodyear asymmetric somethingorother
Michelin PSS

The sort of driving my e91 gets is motorway, journey to work, spirited traffic light acceleration and the occasional slide around a roundabout. Main requirement is comfort / quietness.

Cant decide which ones! Thanks for any advice

If I wasn't paying I'd go for the Michelins, but I think they are too soft and wear out very quick, saying that the grip they give is fantastic. So as a very small compromise I'd be getting the continentals, not much difference between them and the michelins, I feel they last that bit longer.

I'm going for the continentals once my RFT's have worn out.

I have the Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2 and they are very good.

Always score top or near top in any tyre test. They are a reasonable price too.

Goodyear F1 AS2 all the way. They outdo the Continental just slightly. Had these on an Audi S3 and to give you some idea of how good they are... with launch control the traction control light didn't even come on! As they wore down over the months the light came on briefly but the tyres never gave up. In the wet, they were king of the road and even better then designated rain tyres like the Uniroyal Rain Sport 2 which is a directional rain tyre.

If I ever went non-rft it would be the Goodyears.

I've been quoted £580 without fitting (2 x 225/35/19 and 2 x 255/30/19).

Check out tyreleader.co.uk for excellent prices, only thing is they come from Germany and you have to get them fitted.

Sounds like Goodyear are top, and will prob go for them. Interested to see a response to the above question though.

Don't think pss are available in 18" oe sizes in uk.

I have continental but check as the newest was a sideways step from the 3p rather than an upgrade. You want sport contact 5 for 18" or 5p for 19". Same tyre different index.

Birds ranks continental because they are lighter

I prefer my vreds over my MichPS3s

i feel that the side wall is more comfortable for everyday driving.
They are quieter on the roads
Offer very good grip especially when up to temperature. Or even when cold and under hard braking. They have certainly saved me a few times
Did a track day with them and the grip was crazy when they got hot and sticky
Very good in the rain too

I am very happy with them

The best thing about them was they were more comfortable and quiet on a 19" rim than my MichPS3 on an 18" rim!!!

That is saying something right?

I've been thinking about replacing my run flats too. After a bit research might plump for Uniroyal Rainsport 3. They look a pretty decent mid-range tyre... http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Un...ainsport-3.htm

You have a 330 d. Why get mid range all season tyres? A high performance summer tyrprobably be very close in the wet and out perform it when you might actually want to lean on the tyre in the dry.

I couldn't recommend Vred's enough either.. had them on my type r and will be changing all my current tyres to them when they wear out.

Good wear, good grip, esp in the wet... Tyre tread pattern is pretty cool as well.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta will be my next tyres.

I'm probably going to get Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 on my new wheels when they arrive but I know for sure that Vreds (Sessanta and the higher one: Vorti) are really good as well. Highly recommended by many people I know who drive very hard in powerful cars.

Has anyone got any pics of the Goodyears fitted to the wheels? I'd like to see their ability to stretch a little (235/35/19 on 9.5j and 225/35/19 on 8.5j).
