V12's Coding Patience
Last Friday, I finally was able to get my coding done by our fellow member, V12. This was our third attempt, after a mistake by me, then issues associated with using a company laptop. At any rate, Richard was exceptionally patient, and did great work; it is no wonder he has such a great reputation among the membership of this board. I'm glad to have this done!

I echo this sentiment. My experiences have been great.

People,
If you haven't coded your car, this is a must do mod wothr 100X its cost. It shocks me that so many nicefeatures are simply shut down for the U.S. market. I smile every time I start the car and instead of seeing those stupid (and likely unenforceable) legal disclaimers, I get to enjoy the wonderful M Logo screen. Not to mention being able to use the kick function on the trunk without those annoying beeps. Oh, and having the car power down automotically when you open the door. Need I go on?

@v12 - qq - two coding things you may be able to figure out:
1) Lots of reports from non US members that the exhaust valves open up after warmup and *stay* open; whereas in the US cars they only open under heavy acceleration and/or higher RPMs. You happen to know whether this is true, and whether it can be coded? This would eliminate the need for Exhaustmeister for me and many others. 2) I had coded my car to default UK english in order to change to the much more pleasant catherine-zeta-jones voice. However - that caused issues with the way the nav system responds to voice input for entering destinations - it was basically impossible to do the whole address at once via voice, and thus made it considerably less useful. It also made it so voice commands in general needed to be spoken with a british accent in order to work - which was goofy, but fun I suppose. I wound up changing it back to the retarded chick voice. It also screwed up the "Satellite Radio" option in the radio controls - became something like "n.t.b." or something; which I could live with. Ideally there would be a way to set the voice to czj, without screwing up the other things. If you can figure these things out, I'd be very grateful. As would many others, I'd wager. Thanks

@dhirm5: Thank you for posting those questions.
1) is very interesting. I have never done it but will look. 2) In older head units, changing the nav/ voice command voice to the UK chick is/ was less problematic. However in the current ones, it is done by changing the master language to UK English, which as you pointed-out, also changes the address input format and affects a few other things. In some cars I noticed it tends to slow the nav down a little as well. I am afraid there isn't a better way to execute the switch to the UK girl instead of US. From memory I seem to recall seeing a male voice coded in the module but I never tried it (wasn't curious enough). |

Are 2013 M5's (pre-LCI no LED) able to be re-coded for anti dazzle feature (after deactivated from factory)?

So, how do you know you have the latest software? If you have a + sign instead of the funky icon, you have an older version. Here's a closer look...... And btw, v12 will be out of the US for a couple of weeks. |

Big shout out and thanks to v12 (Richard)!
Wonderful guy of great character with whom you can talk on many levels; autos, tech, society, politics, business; just a solid, solid guy. He coded my car last night at the Autostrade Auto Show in Glen Cove, NY and didn't move on to his next client until he was sure I was completely happy with all of the results! Gave me his full and undivided attention. Highly recommended. The best. Last edited by dbs600; 06-27-2014 at 05:13 PM.. |
