Service Engine Soon light timestamp?
Quick question... if I've had an SES light for a couple of days now can the code reader tell when the light first turned on or does it just provide the information regarding the fault?

Are you referring to whether the dealership can see this, or whether a regular code reader has this feature? Cobb does not have this feature -- only shows present and stored fault codes. Whether the dealership's computer can see more info or not, I'm not sure. I imagine it's possible.

Normal code readers don't do that ! And I doubt the dealer's code reader can do it !

The Bav Tech tool displays the mileage and engine conditions at the time of a fault. It shows things like temp and engine RPMs. I don't remember if it shows the actual time or not.

Ok, it doesn't show a time stamp but does show the miles driven and warm ups since

The codes I pull from my car using INPA I believe has a time stamp with mileage. I'll look into this....(When spring comes)

This is what i was thinking BMW's INPA/DIS has LOTS of info. Someone will have to double check if there's a time but im like 99% sure there's mileage.

The BT Scan tool records mileage of when a fault code event happens. OBDII Scan tools will report the mileage. OBDII code readers usually do not (there is a difference between OBDII scan tools and readers).
The mileage data is stored in the ECU as part of the OBDII protocol; dates of the event are not because it is not relevant to determining how to effect a repair. |

yeah the data's there. When I was fighting the dealer about cold start misfires, they tried to bs ing me with "the codes could have happened anytime" so I showed them the snapshot from the BT tool showing mileage, rpm and coolant temp of each misfire fault showing it happened while cold. they were like "ummm". Then I get a call later saying their equipment confirmed the engine parameters when the misfires occurred.
