What's the most reliable E90 Year?
So I'm looking into buying my first BMW.. A 3 Series (E90) Sedan.
I'm just curious as I'm not the richest person in the world but... What year is the most reliable for the E90 Sedan? I already know the 2006 Model has many problems compared to others, so that one is out of the equation. But how are the 2007/2008/2009/2010/2011 years??? Are those reliable and are any new modifications in those ? Thanks you. |

The general consensus is to avoid first model production year, such as the 2007 335i. BY 2010, MOST of the issues have been worked out or had warranty extensions/fixes/better components updated to fix the little gremlins that caused the problems.

So do you think a 2009 328i Sedan would be a good year or a 2011 328i? (NOT the (x Models or xDrive)

You know, since I own the 335i, I don't think I'd be the right person to answer, there are many with that particular vehicle that can answer you much better than I can. Rule of thumb, try to find the lowest mile, newest car you can.

I would put more reliance on the car's track record of service and maintenance and history of issues than I would of a particular manufacture year (though I guess taking both factors into account is even better!).

My previous car was a 2006 325i that i purchased CPO from the dealer, i had engine noise that was coverered under warrenty and turned out to be the eccentric shaft and related components. The cost from my pocket would have been $2500 or more but it was covered under CPO.

all years are good. depends on your price range. pre-lci vs lci. make sure you get something with a good history report. do more research on this forum.

I bought mine used with 40k. I've put on almost another 100K with minor issues. I would highly recommend a 2006 325i to someone looking for a reliable car. If reliability is your thing then go with 325i or 328i. Oil change every 7K and coolant flush once a year and that's the road to success lol.

Yes the 2009 model is lci. I have only had the car for about 6k miles now but the previous owner did not have any issues with the car. I do believe that lci models have a different water pump which has proven to be better than non-lci models, though I could be wrong.

My '06 330i runs great with 150+K miles. Most e90's can be reliable if it is maintained properly. Lemons do exist for all model years. Get a PPI before buying.

A while ago a dealer in Tokyo told me that N55 engine models were more reliable than N54. I got an N54, but slapped a 2 year warranty on it.

I have a 09 328i. Bought as a CPO with 43k miles on it last year. it now has 48k miles. No issues at all other than my read LED light modules had to be replaced. $250 out of my pocket. It's a know issue, but not enough for BMW to issue a recall 9even though I think they should). Other than that, no problems at all, and I love my car. Just put over 400 miles in one day, driving from Fresno to San Francisco. According to the trip computer, I averaged about 29mpg, mixed driving.
Like others have said, make sure the history is clean. A lot of people like the LCI models, but I like the pre-LCI style as well. It all depends on your taste. |

My 06 330i has been problem free for me for 20k, and 60k before that with a spotless mechanical history. PPI and maintenance history are a must. |
