Does the car actually feel different after 1200 mile service? As in, does it have more power/torque and is it very noticeable? I test drove an M5 with 50 miles on it, I'm just wondering if it had all the power or not.

There's been a lot of discussion on this in the past... the general consensus is that there is a bit of a restriction removed after the service. What that restriction exactly is - not sure it's ever been confirmed. Just a data point, the BMW service mechanic who performed my 1200 mile service said there is a change made, although he stated it was to remove a restriction on the max boost pressure, which makes a lot of sense given other anecdotal feedback on this forum. No clue if that's correct or not.

Regardless - the before and after really wasn't noticeable to me - my guess is unless you were well aware of the car's limits prior to 1200 miles, you won't be noticing the difference either.

Nope, there is no change. The 1200 mile service just changes fluids and stuff. I opened my car up on the highway both before and after the service and both times it was fast as hell!

Hey All: so a little hard to tell before and after the 1,200 miles because I really babied it not going over 4k rpm so hard to tell. But when I was at the dealership today they had a bit of a problem talking to the computer in the car. They stated that they needed to remove a restriction that freed up an extra 100 HP. That is what they said but I really do not know. I opened it up a bit today and it was great. The cold weather limits the fun with the cold tires also.

Several employees at my dealer claim it's 100 HP difference before and after the service. I've done full acceleration runs before and after. Not sure it feels 100 HP faster. Maybe because it's having hard time getting the 100 extra HP to the ground? One thing I can say for certain is this car is scary fast once it hooks up. I've had the rear end break loose under full throttle at 70 MPH with the TC turned off.

I drove to Vegas prior to my 1200 mile service. I out pulled a new C7 Vette from 60-130 (beat him by more that a small amount) and was just a tick slower than a new 997 911 Turbo S.

I doubt I would have done as well if it was down 100bhp. I think that is just a story the dealers tell to make you feel good.

My car performs the exact same before and after the service.

The reason why some dealers get this wrong and think 100hp is gained is bc older M models did this....so they've been saying this for years and just assume it to be true.

There is NO POWER GAINED. Idiotic for anyone to think that.
I've been driving my M5 hard since the day I bought it with 60 miles on it.
It has 900 miles on it now, and I just hit 167MPH last night and I already have the BurgerTuning tune on it. No problems at all.
Same with my past 2013 M5, had no issues. Break in is a myth.

I'm a BMW master tech..there is no hp change anymore and the techs who tell you there is need to go back to school. Simply fluids and remove the service notification from the cluster via the test plan.
