ED and doing clear bra in Europe?

Hi all

For those of us that are doing ED, I was trying to figure out where to get the car clear bra'd over there. I was originally going to wait until bringing to the US, but considering I want to put quite a bit of miles on it in my week+ in Europe, I don't want to have the paint all chipped up by the time I clear bra it in the states.

So does it seem like a decent idea to just (aftermarket) clear bra it there? Does anyone have info on this or maybe that ED contact guy that picks us up at the airport might have info?

I would honestly just type the car (I know it looks horrible) vs dealing with a clear bra installer over there.

I have been wondering about this too... How do people protect their cars while on ED?

When I did ED a few years back, they told me not to modify the car in any way because it would be removed and returned to stock as necessary for shipment and passage through customs. Not sure about the clear bra, but my guess is that they'd tell you not to do it because it is not factory equipment.

Thx for info Mkoesel .. looks like I am traveling over there with a couple dozen rolls of thick painters tape

I don't care how the car looks over there with tape on it.. But I do care if it gets all chipped up

Get some Trakktape
I use this when tracking the car. Easy to install, and remove. Doesn't look as bad as painters tape.

Still true! I was told the same for ED this year. I asked for clear bra and will be taken off

Try Trakktape . It's clear and many have put it on in Europe and and left it on for 2 or 3 weeks without a problem.

I bought a big roll and used it for autocrossing once I got to USA. Doesn't look at Tacky as blue tape and will hold up better if it rains.

when I did my ED for my e92 on 2010, I wanted to do the clear bra as well, I checked and asked my friend to call around but it was hard to find that time. I think I end up finding a place but it was very expensive.

I also had plans when I come back to Canada to get it done the first week, I got the full front done, fenders, bumper and full hood.

But next time, if things go well and get the M4, I might order a vinyl and install it there. But I think the trakktape would be easier and cheaper.

Hello. I’ve been in the paint protection business for the past 14 years and will be taking delivery in July. This has been on my bucket list for a very long time, wish I did it with my m3. I already can't sleep at night. lol

I will be taking sheets of film and slapping the film on dry. Hopefully Xpel will have patterns available prior so I can just bring pre-cut templates with me on the plane. I'm going to cover front end, rockers and behind the rear wheels.

Perhaps I can help out some of forum members with a cost hook up on the same thing? It wouldn't be good permanent film but just something that you can put on and then rip off when you get done with your trip.

The other option is above which works well too and probably be cheaper than temporary paint protection film.

If anyone needs anything, I would be happy to help.

Thanks
Ryan

3M Paint Defender might be an option. I have a kit in hand but haven't used it yet. I've read that it's tough to apply perfectly and takes some time, but for a temp solution who cares. Have no idea how easy it peels off.

They will fix any rock chips or ETC at port when it arrives in the US. nothing to worry about.

I own a 3M certified PPF installation business. I was going as part of the joint group ED. I am planning on having 25 kits for installation available at delivery. Just rounding up installers. we will price it for a quick installation and removal upon return to munich after the trip.

you cannot have it on the car when you give it back to bmw.

Not sure whats going to happen with the joint delivery with all the delays but this is part of what we were working on. If anyone else needs some help with an installer in munich just PM me and i can try to help out.

Thx for info Karussell..

Any issues with paintwork scratches when removing the clearbra prior to shipping? What I mean is at the edges where you have to get under the plastic start to lift it.

Karuessll,

Would you be interested in selling the kits without install? I have no idea when my ED will be and would be interested in installing my own.
