Best ipod interface option

Tried searching but cannot find what I'm after as there seems to be so many options!

I have just bought a 58 plate E93 330i without the USB connection. I'm currently using the aux connection to connect my iPod but I have to change track using the iPod and turn it off when I get out of the car as it doesn't automatically turn off.

I wondered what my options are for connecting it and being able to see the iPod menus on the head unit, change track with the steering wheel and auto turn off when I turn the car off? I have had an xcarlink in the past but would like something more oem if possible.

I have the professional radio by the way.

Thanks!

I was thinking about this also. Don't know about best, but I'm thinking about this one! For £55 delivered! Any views anyone?

Looks good. I'm looking to possibly retrofit the oem ipod interface though but I'm not sure how to go about this.

OEM solutions;
A) if standard radio, the bmw makes ipod retrofit kit. Approx £250 from the dealer.
B) if you have CCC, then same as A.
C) If you have CIC (new navigation), then same as A.
D) If you have CIC, other option is to install combox.

After-market solutions:
Dension kit.
or One which is shown above.

PS: If you buy a kit which uses the aux-in of bmw, the sound quality will stay poor.

I've got a Pure 300Di installed, been using it for a couple of years now with no complaints.

Wired in via the aux-in, gives me DAB and iPod interface via a small additional screen. It was pretty cheap, £180 fitted at Halfords, though to be honest I've since redone all the wiring because it wasn't a very good quality install, but it was Halfords so should have known better

Originally came with external DAB aerial but I've replaced that with an internal windscreen one after my original windscreen was replaced due to a chip and DAB reception is still fine. The iPod/iPhone connects via USB so supports charging, displays track names, allows me to pause/skip/ album select etc. Also works perfectly with my iPhone 5 with its new smaller connector, these days it's used 90% of the time for Spotify, again it displays track name and allows me to skip tracks/pause etc all from the control unit

The OEM BMW options are obviously a lot better integrated but more £££.

Buy a new (2nd hand) HU with USB & Bluetooth, then buy a USB port and cables form BMW. Fit and get Sam Makkan00 to code it for you.

Think this is my best option so a few questions:
1/ Does anyone know the part number of the latest lci professional head unit? I think it might be 6512 9258170-01?
2/ Can i tell which unit i already have without taking it out?
3/ Ive seen some on ebay which say it doesnt need coding, is this correct? My car is 58 plate so pre-lci i think.
4/ Im in Derby so need a coder somewhere near, does anyone know of someone in and around Derby/Midlands?
5/ Or could i take the unit to a reputable Car Hifi shop to have it coded?

Thanks!

1- There are multiple part numbers for those HU so single part number will not help you.
2- It started from 2011 onward cars so if yours is 58 plate, it will not have that function.
3- Wrong info. The BT and usb may be activated but the sound DSP settings may be for E82 or E93. Who knows. Its best to have it coded to your car with your car settings.
4- or you can buy one from me which will be pre-coded to your car (once you send last 7 digits of you vin).
5- Only bmw indy or advance coder can do it.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot Makkan. I'll start looking for a unit now and speak to my local specialist Hughes Bros in Derby. Where are you by the way? And roughly how much do you charge for this upgrade? Thanks again guys!

Based in Grays, Essex.

Kindly check in classified as I'm selling a Radio at the moment which will be plug and play to buyer's car.
You can fit it yourself which is not difficult.
