Apple Carplay (aka IOS in the car) support?

Wishful thinking here, but I hope it can be retrofitted into a 2er. BMW is listed as supporting this albeit later.

http://www.macrumors.com/2014/03/03/...unces-carplay/

"...CarPlay will be accessible this week with vehicles from manufacturers such as Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo, while other manufacturers such as BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota will receive the update later."

If they did bring out a software update to allow this it would probably mean I'd upgrade from my 4s.

Haven't had a reason to yet

Suspect this would be a significant update from current iDrive equipment, may not retrofit. Current iDrive has it's own voice recognition what would be replaced with Siri. Also consider required holistic UI redesign to support iOS interactions vs the iDrive layered concept.

...then what do they do with current Nav and traffic integration.

Manufacturers with touch-screen systems would face a more seamless integration, but don't see BMW going that way. Touch interfaces don't mix with the driving task. Even if BMW did go that way, that would require a drastic change to cockpit layout.

It will be interesting to see how much BMW will allow CarPlay to integrate into their data structure. BMW has spent A LOT of money and research on iDrive and its driver interface. I personally do NOT want a touch screen and prefer the dedicated iDrive controller.
But I'm all for more functionality!

It should work with the iDrive controller. It has the capacity to use touch inputs but t doesn't have to.
The Knobs and Controls picture is from the new C- class coming out and I don't believe that has a touch screen.
