Changing speedometer

Hey guys my speedometer is messed up.. Gas gage doesn't work. I found a speedo with very similar miles from a 328i e92. I was wondering if it's plug and play? And does it make a difference if it's from a auto or manual?

335i and 328i gauges are different. N54 ones have a oil temp gauge and the N52 ones have a mpg gauge. Not sure if any coding is required on top of that (as in VIN coded)....

you need some coding done, if the mileage of the "new" speedometer is higher than you currently have, it will automaticaly update all the other module where the mileage is written to the higher mileage,if it's less it will update the one from the other module so you will have the correct mileage.
and yes im pretty sure it require coding.

A brand new cluster will be plug and play. Even a M3 cluster will work with some coding. If you get a used cluster, the M35080 chip (which stores VIN and mileage) will have to to be reprogrammed directly.

You'll need coding no matter what.

And n54 and n52 clusters aren't all different. Both my n52s were exactly the same as my n54 and n55.

I had my cluster replaced for a fluttering fuel gauge needle at the dealer under CPO.

They said they had to "Reset/reprogram the entire computer" to have it recognized.

LOL!

I miss the "good old days" when you could just hook up the end of the speedo cable to a drill and run it in reverse for awhile.
