What brake pads is everyone using on the Z4M?

I tried searching here and the other BMW Z-sub-forums but couldn't find the answer that I know is there.

My father's brakes are starting to squeel and we think we should get some new pads for that and just new pads that will reduce brake dust.

How much have those pads been cutting down on dust? How is the performance/wear compared to OEM? Do they ever squeel? And lastly; where did you purchase them from?

Dust is at a 0 now. My wheels stay cleaner then my car between washes. Pedal feel did not change much at all and they do not squeel at all.

Had Hawk HPS Brake Pads on my E46 330. Loved them, my wheels weren't gunmetal (from Brushed Aluminum) 2 days after wash anymore. Only thing was squeak with aftermarket pads which can be embarrassing.

I used to own an exceptionally modified Suabru WRX, and found Porterfield R4-s pads to be best. They're not for track use unless you like molten pads, but they're the best pads I ever drove and are very rotor friendly.

Neither Axis nor Hawk pads compared well at all.

I used both the Performance Friction Z-rated pad and the Akebono ceramic pad on my former 2000 E36/8 Z3 M Coupe with good results; nice linear brake pedal feel and low dust.
I plan on replacing the stock dusty Textar pads with the Akebono Euro Ultra P/N EUR946 front ($55) and EUR683 rear ($62) from Rockauto.

Pagid RS29s on the front, still on stocks at the rear, but will swap them out when they wear through.

Those are the exact ones you ordered? The stock M3 pads fit up with the M Coupe/CSL brake setup without any dramas? So the calipers are the same I take it and the rotors are just larger correct?

How would you compare the performance of them with the stock setup?

They dont have a listing for the Z4M so you have to order the pads designed for the ZCP competition M3. To me the brakes feel the same as the stock pads.

Calipers are not the same. The MZ4/M3 Competition Package brake calipers has larger front piston diameter than the regular E46 M3 brakes. However, the BACKING PLATES are the same.

The "prongs" on the back of the inboard brake pad on the MZ4/M3 Comp. Pack uses the same setup as X5 4.4 pads (but X5 4.4 pads are different backing). If you buy pads designed for the M3, you can bend the prongs out slightly to accommodate the MZ4. Otherwise it may make a squealing noise or knock when the pistons release.

Does anyone know a reliable way to specifypads other than as for a MY07 M Coupe? I know we've got the competition brakes from the M 3 Coupe, but which year?

You're never going to fully elimate squeal. You drive a sports car so you get sports car side effects (like brakes that squeal).

I use stocker pads. They sqeal only toward the end of track sessions and then stop squealing when they cool down a bit. Saturday was the only time I noticed a bit of fade as they heated up, but nothing too serious. My brake system is fully stock except for ATE super blue brake fluid.

Ferodo DS2500 F&R for the street and I swap DS3000's up front for track duty. They are NOT cheap pads but the DS2500's are phenomenal street pads and the DS3000's are quite competent on the track. You just need to bed the DS2500's in properly to avoid some terrible squealing.

These are my third pair of front disks in 28.000km. The previous disks where both curved.

Ran them on my M3 and now run them on my MC. LOVE THEM, zero problems and almost no dust.

I've run the DS2500's on my 330Ci and on my Z4M and have never had any dusting how you describe...
