tire recommendations

Have you had any experience with any of these?
  • Yokohama s. Drive
  • Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2
  • Continental ExtremeContact DW
  • Michelin Pilot Super Sport

this is for my BMW 335 which gets used by my wife as a daily driver. road noise is not an issue as the exhaust is stupid loud. We have winter tires for the cold months, so these are simply for summer driving over terrible Seattle roads

I'm leaning towards the Michelin or the Yokohama....

Had the Ventus...like it exempt on wet road.

Now got the Conti, love them, especially on wet road.

Michelin are the best in class but more expensive.

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is, hands down, the top choice here for maximum handling, steering response and grip levels but it does ride a bit stiffly. If your wife is the primary driver and wants a tire with a bit softer ride than the Pilot Super Sport, consider the Continental Extreme Contact DW instead.

I have the Hankook's now and love them so far (but then again I'm comparing them to my OEM RFT's) the PSS are the best in class, but a little pricier

Why not Bridgestone S04? They get great reviews at about 30% cheaper than the PSS

I'm on my second set of Conti Extreme DW. Decent traction dry, great in the wet. It rains a lot here.

Logged 40k on my first set. I think I'll get there with the second set as well.

I might try something different next time, maybe PSS. Still, the DW is a good tire and attractively priced.

Lol... soo, we have the Blizzaks for winter. they are great if there is snow on the ground, but otherwise never want to find traction in the cold/dry.

we bought the Michelin PSS, however they seem to be a wider build than the retiring Toyo Z1R and are causing a bit of scraping. I'm going back tonight to have them taken off. Gotta go to plan B.

Just left Mr. Tire with a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's. Switched over from runflats, AMAZING! Tires are, sticky icky.

Great!
How's the turn-in? Is the steering still nice and precise?

i went to Conti DWS with a 135i and it was super mushy. Don't want to repeat that.

the tire store is going to swap me out for either;
  • Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric
  • Continental Extreme Contact DW
  • Yokohama s. Drive

price is not an issue, and we aren't tracking the car. these tires will never see winter. hoping for a good all around tire that I can trust to not leave my wife stranded on the side of the interstate.

I'm leaning towards the Conti, but the tire store manager thinks the Goodyear are the way to go.

Not the goodyear for sure. In your first post you listed the new Hankooks. There currently aren't any reviews out yet since the tire is so new. I am mounting my set next month, I bet they will be very competitive.

I have just installed the as3 as well and I love them, stiffer than the dws as far as steering response, and still very smooth on the road. Some have reported noise issues, but mine are quiet. I just wish they were made in 235 265 for our 19" setup. I had to move up to 245 275 which is slightly too big for us.

Out of those 3 ; continental for sure, but they'll wear fast.

What size tires where you running? Also I would opt for the Conti's.

True. But IMHO these are the best tires for daily driving.

The grip is unbelievable.

The compound is sticky.

But (laugh all you want - I'm paranoid of the rain due to a previous hydroplaning accent), they perform VERY WELL in the rain for having such an aggressive dry performance.

I honestly will never seek out another modern tire again.

You cannot go wrong with this tire. A tire is the last place I want to save money on and budget on.

Edit:

My bad. Didn't read, nor do I have any experience on those. Sorry!

I had a set of Hankook Ventus V12 EVO (not the EVO2) and got less than 20kmi out of them. The wear on the inner tread was so bad a rear tire had split at the tread/sidewall seam. My suspension and tire pressure was within specs so I was confused why it wore down so fast. Performance: no complaints but the noise.

A tech at a local BMW show recommended Sumitomo HTR ZII
http://www.sumitomotire.com/cars/pro...HTR/htrz2.aspx
Any thoughts?

When new, the Conti DWs made my E90 with sports packages feel like a Buick - soft, smooth and quiet. Too soft for me. They firmed up as the miles accumulated.

I like the S-04's much better. Great combination of ride, handling and responsiveness.

after getting the DWs installed, I completely agree. They feel very floaty with little road feedback. I hope they firm up over time.

They will. Mine went from soft, smooth and quiet in the beginning to firm, not so smooth and not as quiet over the 40K miles I had them (1 set up front, 2 sets in rear). They felt like different tires towards the end of their life.

The softness was worse in my case because BMW recommends 32 PSI for front and rear for my 2008 328i with sports package. I ran the DW's at 35 PSI, which reduced the softness.
