Missing gasket from turbo

So I was installing my down pipes and noticed this play in the pipe that connect to the turbo. I looked at the front turbo and it looks like there is a rubber gasket there. I have a lot of whist noise and I think I finally found out why, they pipe is barely on the turbo with a lot of play and not hooked on tight at all! I just recently got new turbos from the dealer and I guess they forgot to put this I ring gasket on ? Am I correct on this and what's this part even called? Thanks!

Fine meaning I shouldn't fix this? Why not. I already have everything out so it's easy to get to. If I push a lot of boost I think it will be a problem

i mean if you can "fix" it, go for it.

but it wont be a problem because its the inlet/intake if anything u can get a little extra air in there which never hurts. (thats the "whist" noise u hear)

but what if something gets in there? meh doubt it.

i have around 10K miles on my turbo with no filter or anything and it was just off for shakedown/inspection and zero issues.

up to you

its normal on the stock turbos thats all im saying

What do you mean no filters? I don't understand. With that inlet open , doesn't thAt mean less air is getting pushed through ?

opposite.

thats where the air is pulled in from the turbo thru the intake piping and filter.

if anything more air is allowed in if that is loose or compromised

just "unfiltered air"

You 100% absolutely want to fix this ASAP!! One small rock, piece of road debris, anything gets sucked in there, and yes its a MASSIVE vacuum, kiss that rear turbo goodbye. Running no filters is the quickest way to ruin a turbo.

I would fix that. You have an air filter for a reason.

AK335 is trolling or drinking, but that is bad and needs fixed.

no im just sayin it happens more than ppl think on the stock ones.. the intake piece can separate a touch from the turbo creating a vacuum there..

if u drive on dirt roads or dusty areas yea its an issue

but if u dont then its no big deal...

I literally just had my car apart yesterday to address this very issue...

I had just installed catless dps a couple weeks ago and when I brought the car in for a follow-up alignment my buddy noticed it; he's a master mechanic at BMW. We were able to push it back on very easy but right after doing so you could see it backing itself off again; not fully off but back a half inch or so. I bought a new seal (p/n: 13717568029) and took the car home to deal with it myself over the weekend. After an a hour or two of screwing around with it (with dps still on I might add; refused to have to pay for another alignment) I can confirm that there is not enough space to back the pipe off enough to replace the seal. Even after removing the two inlet duct brackets there is still a lower out of reach bracket 2/3rds down the pipe which prevents the pipe from backing out enough. Even if you bent that bracket I still don't believe there is enough space between the block and the fire wall to give you the clearance you need. I ended up just settling with a hose clamp to keep it in place and leaving the old seal in there. I will have to put the stock dps back on and have the dealer deal with it eventually before my CPO expires but for the time being I am content with the hose clamp. After looking at your pic again closely it looks like the your seal may actually be there; towards the bottom of the pipe I can see what looks to be some chewed up rubber gasket.

Hope this helps you make a decision. GL.

Yup

Basically no problem. It just backs off a bit sometimes but not enough to let debris in.

Like I said just a Lil extra air. OP you are fine

Thanks I checked again, I def don't have the gasket. I'm going to buy one tontorow. Wish me luck. I don't plan on taking down pipes off again so this is the only time. And like others have said, any little unfiltered air is no good! Lol

Thanks so much! Exactly what I needed to know. My dealership tends not to know anything in the parts department

Pretty sure you will have to pull turbo to put that seal in. I hope not but there is not much room to move the tube back
