OK, as i've just popped my cherry so to speak I thought it's time to post some drivel here with the rest of you (entertaining) wasters.

So, anybody here suffering with Torque Inferiority Complex?

It's a real problem and i'm thinking of setting up some sort of self help group.

This forum is a tonic in itself.

It would have to be crank as with the gearing a 335d sticks out over 1700 ftlbs out the back of the box in first gear.

Therefore low torque can be overcome by having high revs.

You cant get Accurate flywheel/crank figures on auto cars.

Im guestimating on peppernicks figure of 270bhp (15% loss) 310.5bhp, sounds a bit low. but still a great improvement!!

Nicks went from 222-270 at the wheels! I would say yours will be the same.

Did those figures come from a write up from Nick?

Now doing my math's, if Peppernicks was 222BHP at the wheels standard, divide that into the flywheel ouput of 286BHP, give you a figure of 0.776 (drivetrain lossses). Divide the new figure of 270BHP, at the wheels, by 0.776 ( to allow for the drivetrain losses) give a flywheel figure of just under 348BHP!!!!!

I am sure thats how you would work it out - correct me if Im wrong??

I wasnt working it out to 286bhp. I was doing it to 15% losses which many people agree is approx the right figure for an auto car. whereas manuals are 12% (Remember, we dont know what autos make as we cant get a flywheel figure, so using 286bhp is a little academic, 222bhp at the wheels has been accurately measured)

Most 335is make 270at the wheels anyway, so your suggesting there all from the factory 348bhp, i dont think so... most are approx 310-315bhp at the fly!

Not content with trashing us with hoooge torque numbers, now you've started attacking on the hbp numbers as well.

Think how much luggage space i'll have with the seats folded down. Yawn.

The 286 quoted at factory, is at the flywheel not the wheels, hence, 222 at the wheels means 23% losses due to transmission, that how if you follow my maths you get to 348 at the flywheel _ I am working it out on the figures that you posted - I presume they came from Nick
