Selling an F30 privately
Some advice would be appreciated. My M4 convertible is due early Sept and I will need to sell my lovely 320i xdrive msport auto EBII before that. I bought it new 2 years ago and it literally has all the spec (HUD, Vis pack, Safety Pack, HK, Surround etc). Mileage only 13k.
It is showing a service in 3400 miles and also will need 2 new front tyres about that time (depth currently around 3.5mm). I have the service pack but I would still have to pay for brake pads. My question is: 1. Has anyone had to replace the fronts tyres, 19" Pzero RFTs are around £250 ish I think? 2. What have people paid for pads etc on 1st service? 3. Anyone hired a car for a couple of months before getting a car? I would think it cost around £300/month but might be well out. The car is only worth around £21-22k trade in, been offered 21.5 for Sept, (don't get me started on depreciation), privately no more than £24-25k but I think it is worth selling it June/July to a prestige non BMW type dealer and saving the money on the other work. I might be wrong but I would think most people looking at used f30s might want to spend their money at a dealer. Thanks for your help.

I always sell my cars privately albeit sometimes they are bought by independent dealers or middlemen and have always managed to get more than the P/X price offered. People will always prefer to spend their money at dealers for the additional financial safety so you have to price mid way between the P/X/trade price and what they're going for AUC etc.
You've got a nice spec which will stand out so that also helps. Personally I would not bother spending on the car as even if you do it will not be worth a penny more and buyers will still haggle with you so at least give them something to haggle over. |

Can't answer 1,2 or 3 but your final point/question.. If the car was within manufacturers warranty period and had a service pack and low mileage like yours I'd certainly consider an independent specialist. Often the prices are far better for similar cars as main dealers. I only went to a main dealer as they had what I wanted at a price I was happy paying.
Also, luckily for you I am around the beginning of September so can happily relieve you of the chore of running in that new M4. I know it can be boring running a car in so would be happy to help.. I could hand it back after a couple of weeks with say a couple of thousand miles on the clock? |

It is a dilemma UK. I usually take the slight hit and go for trade in for simplicity. Quite surprised pads are needed on 2nd service.....then again on my last 2 cars I have traded in before changing tyres!!
Just re-read your first port, new pads at 13,5000 + 3000 = 16-18k ish miles?

I did the tyres because the dealer can't discount enough and he would have knocked that off the price, they said don't get it serviced they would do it, so obviously they can do it at cost as part of their process for onward sell. So I think you might need to do tyres, but possibly ignore the other work and let the garage do it. On a related note, as much as I like buying from dealers, I'd always consider one of those prestige places, the prices seem to be more reasonable as they aren't as greedy on the margin or having to run plush dealerships. |

I'm surprised you need new front tyres at anything less than 20k miles. I'm on 25,000 in my 330d and fronts are still going strong (4.5mm). Possible tracking error.....or AWD?
Regarding brake pads, I'm pretty sure those won't need changing. There has been a few instances of a premature brake replacement warning on F30's. I suspect it is this if you are going on the service screen??? Selling privately? Mmmm not easy to sell anything over about £12-15k to cash buyers. Is it too late to haggle over PX with BMW??? That would save much hassle. |

As others have said it's hard to sell something private once you get over £20k it needs to be special. |

Needing front tyres and pads at less than 20k miles is ridiculous... Either you drive weird or there is an issue with your car.
The issue selling privately is when cars are being bought with finance and most buyers aren't aware that you can easily arranged car finance for private purchase. I can put you in touch with someone I've used a few times, who could help anyone interested in buying your car. |

Seems a good offer price to me too, My 330D 16 months old was valued at 22.5K with 10K miles. Not quite as many extras as yours but.
Its tricky as they may have bumped yours up and not gave a good discount on what your buying. I guess if you sign up and then sell privately for more you'll be better off. |

Thanks Nisfan. Yes the service log is showing front brake pads in 3000 miles but you might be right.
I was surprised at the tyre wear. They seem to be wearing evenly, perhaps AWD does front tyres more. Part ex wasn't part of new car order so BMW probably won't care apart from the profit they would easily make from selling it. Sure it will all get sorted. |

As everyone's covered the rest I'll chip in about car hire. Care hire is expensive... period! £300/m won't get you much at all... Perhaps the smallest Hyundai? I hired for a long period a while back and for approx £500/m I ended up with a Kuga titanium, then a 2.0 Astra cdti, then a ford focus 1.6d titanium. That was with a lower price than from a hire car comparison site due to haggling once at the front desk.
