Different take on the badge/de-badge debate
There are many car manufacturers out there who don't actually put a badge on the back of their cars indicating engine size/power.
Assuming BMW was one of them and all that you got on your boot was a badge saying '3 Series' or '4 series' and all the cars had a twin exhaust on the left, so no engine numbers, no M badges, no X-Drive badges... i.e. no way of telling what flavour of 3/4 Series it was. Would this have affected your purchase in any way?

Sorry but those questions are a bit, do you still beat your wife style.
What about would you have gone for xdrive or would you have gone for bigger engine. It sort of is aimed at 335d drivers. Okay my answer is not in the poll. I would have went for a larger petrol xdrive but not available, would have went 335i xdrive, do not like the 2.0i engine it's a bit lame. Sorry but shit poll really it's not balanced. Add in the option of going to bigger engine and of choosing X drive rather that S drive. Ok majority will choose S but at least it's balanced then. Why would anyone want a smaller engine? |

The cars do look identical apart from the dual exaust but you don't buy a bugger engine for looks. It's kind of missing the point. Apologies if I misunderstood you Rob |

badging or not badging would make no difference to car i bought,
wether that would be a 2 or 3 liter version. if i had the funds at the time i probably would have got a 330d or 328i over the 320i i got. might feel nice to have paid 10k less for a car that no one can tell if it's the higher powered version. a la debadged 520d v 530d will i get a 328i or 330d next time? i don't know... as the performance thing is a double edged sword for me. i can barely contain myself in the 320i, i think if i had bought a 330d, by now i would be banned or paying a lot for my insurance..... exactly how fast have 330d, 335d, and 335i drivers gone to 'see off' boy racers in their pocket rockets? ...100mph, 130mph, 150 mph...!? |

This is comparing it to my E91 320d hearse. I found it a very disappointing engine. The 328 yes it's good but needs worked. 335i is excellent Regarding other post on seeing off boy racers, from experience you don't need to drive fast, most are crap at driving in anything other than straight lines and do not like 'offensive ' style driving done to them. |

Well most times the 335d is a lot faster than them, especially off the line (where they are most likely to be found brap brap brapin' init), so you normally don't need to break the speed limit to be way ahead if you wish to have the odd play where conditions allow.

I got a 330d because it was cheaper to lease than a 320d, especially if you added all the equipment a 330d has onto the 320d! And on paper the mpg was very similar! So my answer is no it would make no difference,
However now i know that in the real world there is quite a difference in the fuel efficiency, that would have made my decision harder! But i also now know how much faster, quieter and refined the 330d is so that would sway the decision back again! |

Badges don't come into my mind when choosing a car. Much more to deciding what I'm going to drive around in, than think of what badge it has on it. Not done to impress anyone. I'd not hide a badge either, as it can be a talking point with like minded folk.
Great to have someone come up and say they've noticed I drive a ... and get into 'car' talk. Would be the same if I was getting out of a Skoda Yeti. HighlandPete |

I'd be suprised if anyone gets a bigger engine just because they get a higher last two digits on the badge. I would also fall down and die of amazement if anyone bought xd so they could have the badge why is "would have gone sd instead of xd" an option in a badge related poll thread?? Who gets xd to pose, im obviously missing something
