18" staggered on xi: tire size?
Hey,
I'm debating about moving down to 18" wheels and going 8.5 and 9.5" staggered. I know the OEM size wheels are 225/40/18 & 255/35/18. Question is this. I want to avoid any poke, so what's the size tire that could do this while still maintaining a very close rolling diameter? I think this size may produce too much poke as this is the same size on the OEM 8 & 9" wheel. Thinking of Michelin or Continental summers so open to recommendations tires that may help reduce the poke based on sidewall shape being more 'square'. Thoughts? thanks. |

235/40 and 265/35 should be good and it won't have "poke" on a 8.5/9.5.

Thanks. Makes sense and still better rolling diamter than the typical 19" staggered setup I've been running.
Based on the ratio size I believe I would get a slightly higher sidewall. My point of going 18" is to provide more tire size (cushioning) given massive potholes around here. Can you weight in on this impact of moving up width slightly? Is it actually giving me more rubber under the wheel too? Last edited by Fozzy; 05-04-2014 at 11:24 AM.. |

I just bought the Apex EC-7 in a 18x9 ET31 and 18x10 ET43 from David@ApexRaceParts on here. tire sizes I'm going with for my XI are 245/40/18 and 275/35/18. Apex, VMR, etc. are great with helping you out with what you need on here but it may take a little as they're always running around. Good people on here though.
Before that I had 18x8.5 ET35 AG M359 with 15mm all around on 245/40/18. I think the 235/265 would definitely look good on 8.5/9.5. Just my 2 cents lol

I agree with the others.
I am running 225/40/18 on 8.5 for my winter setup and I have just a little bit of poke, but not much, so a 235/40/18 on 8.5 should be flush with the wheel. Not the best picture, but this is my 225/40/18 on 8.5.

Great info. and pic, thanks. Looks like I'll clear the coils on the inside too! Decision made on tire size...now the continued waffling on the wheels. Actually leaning toward Enkei Tenjins at this point. Had AG M310 machined face and regret selling them, but oh well. Lose a little weight.
