F30 330d v 2005 Bentley GTC

Guy in a dark blue GTC pulled up next to me at the lights, smiled and raised his roof. Worth a punt I thought, just to see how the old diesel would do against a 6L V12..."Oh god, here we go" said the Mrs, she knows me too well

Anyway, we both got off the line well and he was quicker but I couldn't believe how little he pulled away. Up to a ton and he was only about 3 car lengths ahead, a lot less in it than I thought there would be. I caught all that up at the next roundabout where we both went round pretty sideways with both my tyres and the Mrs squealing. Same again up to about 80, probably just 2 car lengths in it this time. We both then stopped at the next lights and gave each other the thumbs up before turning off the dual carriageway in opposite directions.

So a 6L V12 0-60 4.8s against a 3L Straight6 0-60 5.6s = about 3 car lengths 0-100.

Not at all bad for a diesel costing a quarter of the Bentley's original purchase price

Not bad at all. On a long run you'd arrive at your destination more quickly as you won't be stopping so often for fuel.

Now just watch how the 335d xDrive owners will pipe in and say that they could have kept up!

I think your wife is a saint. Can I have her please?

You are a bad, bad boy and I like you very much.

I haven't had anyone try it on me so far past 30mph, because most of them realise they wouldn't catch up

I think I'm going to have to watch out for these 330d's, they sound lethal.

get caught doing that here and loss of car immediately for a week. stranded on the side of the road. pay the pound fee and towing ($2000). Have a ticket worth $600-1000, loss of demerit points and insurance rates 2-3x what you're paying now.

take it to a track next time

He was playing with you.
The Bentley is nearly 4 seconds quicker to 100 mph than the 330d.
That's an awful lot more than 3 car lengths.

Did the Bentley driver even know you were there?

I can imagine him driving at 60% along a duel carriage way, with you screaming away behind him, and him not even knowing he was in a "race".....

I can't imagine a 335d even getting close tbh, so this is not me beating on the 330d.

My brother in law works for Bentley and is constantly ranting on about them and turning up at weddings for the day in a test car. I'm only jealous of course but...they're obviously more cruiser than sports. Isn't a single current production Bentley (£250k cars included) that's faster 0-60 than an F8X

Would believe the 6cyl diesel F3X would keep up especially an XDrive in the wet. Bomb proof build on the Bentleys though, so saggy leather in sight !

Exactly. Just look at how many xDrive owners will be dropping their trousers and going Weiner Schnitzel.

The wet wouldn't make any difference Chester x5.

Bentley's are 4wd.

In honesty gone off my 335d a bit. gave it a good leathering the other day and the turn in is definitely suspect to say the least.
Its super quick but, there's more fun to be had in another variant i'm sure..
