Question Cruise Control brake function

Does the cruise control with brake function activate the brake lights? For example, if you're in a 60 limit using cruise control then approaching a 30 limit you click the cc stick down 6 times, the car slows down quite sharply, so do the brake lights come on as if you are pressing the brake pedal?

Pretty sure it must do but would like to know for definite as there is obviously no way i can check for myself!

Garage List
Yes, the cruise control brake function does activate the brake lights.

Fun fact - when the BMW i3 decelerates due to regen (no "throttle"/braking), the brake lights show. Which is a bloody good job as it decelerates hard!

Would be cool if they flashed like F1 cars when in the wet :-)

I'd love it if I could see when brake lights come on as you never quite know when it's happening with ACC. Just backing off can feel like braking when you're not doing it. Clearly I know when it's braking hard or when in tailbacks but would be nice to see at higher speeds.

Fortunately on my F31 I can see the high level light reflected in the dealer sticker at the top of the rear window

I'm going to offer the opinion that Cruise control with brake function doesn't activate the brake lights... It only uses the brakes to ensure that when going downhill you do not go over your set speed, hence there should be no deviation from your set speed, and hence no need for brake lights to come on.

I'm basing that on the logic in my head rather than knowing definitively! If someone knows for sure that they do then happy to accept it...

With Active cruise where the car will slow down automatically to keep a set distance then the brake lights do come on.

I agree it should put the brake light on when going down hill as all it's using the brakes for is to maintain the same speed.

But as i said when you click the stick down several times surely it uses the brakes, don't think engine braking would slow it down that sharply?

Normal cruise will brake the car if you reduce the speed dramatically though, so the lights should come on.

Nope, brake lights do come on when cruise control uses its brake function. Sorry

Ok so I only read the first part of your first post! In that situation then I can't imagine that it wouldn't use your brake lights.

I asked them not to put it on but then didn't bother to remove it when it was already on!

Good for seeing the brake lights when on cruise tho
