Is this where guys with 991 S should chime in and say "I'd like to see that on a track" or "just take one curve"-lol

Thanks for posting. I have both (mine is MT) and I always thought it would be that bad….Thanks for confirming it . However like Cold said, just as bad as the M embarrassed in a straight-line, the 991 would embarrass it in the turns. Hence why I bought one.

I think its great that M owners (most I meant) also realize how dynamic and rewarding 400 hp can be especially in a chassis like the 991... I know which car I'd own if I could only have one but my situation is different than others with kids and such.

Gosh the price tag on the Porsche vs. the performance is kind of a mismatch based on that video. I don't drive my car on the track but I do have some roads that are fun to drive and the M5 gives me plenty of joy on them. The M5 seems to have the best amenities as well. Yes it is big but for now, that is what I need. I am thinking about getting a second smaller car but after viewing this, I definitely favor the California. However, even a used 2012 is still around $180k for which you can get a new 911 TurboS which will smoke the M5, decisions, decisions.

Train lengths. Love it. Haha!

But if we compare Apples to Apples, i.e. Porsche Panamera Turbo S. We will find the M5 still beats it in the straight line rolling race. Don't know about the corners though. I think the Panny might "feel" better on a track.

Shouldn't we really be comparing a 991 C2S with an M4 though?? I dunno.

Also consider this, for M4 fanboys out there. If a 991 C2S is less than 3,200lbs and makes 400hp, and in the above example there are train lengths between it and an M5 in a rolling race, then how will a 3,500lbs and 425hp M4 do against an M5 in the same situation. Might be even more embarrassing for the M4. Can't wait to hunt one down on the highway this summer.

If you drive a California you may change your mind. Drive both. I own(ed) both (a 2010 Cali and a 2014 C2s). Would never have given up the Porsche for the Ferrari.

Do you have a thing for Gustav? C'mon. All these Gustav rolling start videos. They don't mean anything and results are all over the place. You must watch them late at night when you're all alone. Gustav...Gustav...ooohhh Gustav....

On a tight and short road course the 991 would obviously finish ahead of the M5, but for a big old boat, the F10 M5 can be hustled around a long(ish) road course pretty damn quickly. In fact if there are a couple of decent straights and if the corners aren't too technical, an F10 M5 'might' be able to hold it's own for a couple of hot laps against the 991 S; (or at least until the brakes started to wilt! lol). Now this would have to be with a driver that knows their way around a road course obviously. However the 991 S should certainly be comfortably ahead of the M5 over 20-25 minutes. As you'd expect.

Have both cars, and pretty pointless the M5 will win every time ......power and torque is outstanding. I never purchased the 991S for a drag race it's a high revving car made for a different mission. Driving on the track or twisty back roads the Porsche is the fun car to drive hands down. Big brother GT3 will be here in November to take fun to a different level.

Both magnificent cars but different cars...

I have owned a '13 F10 M5 6MT for about a year and currently own a '14 991 C2S 7MT.

The F10 M5 is by far the best overall car in the world IMO, especially if the car is 6MT because then it becomes more of a driver's car. It is a highway high speed cruiser, the available torque from 1500 to 6000 rpm is the engine's jewel. The F10 M5 is a lot more nimble than it looks.

The 991 C2S is sublime in all aspects, it really feels like anything else I have ever driven before. It is all about the driver's senses, everything seems to right, handling, gearbox, suspension, brakes, engine, throttle response, engine sound behind your ears!!! This a precision tool to enjoy driving to the fullest. There is always an excuse to drive this car!!! The 991 C2S is also nice comfortable to commute.

The F10 M5 will walk away the 991 C2S in straight line, in the track the 991 C2S will run away F10 M5...
