Exclamation iPhone 4 can't connect

Hello, I've had my 2014 335i xdrive, alpine white, luxury line for four weeks now. Love the car and it's power and handling. Today for the first time decided to conect my iPhone 4 thru the glove USB and see if I can listen to my collection of songs. The car does recognize the phone but no music. I do go on the I drive and it keeps asking me if I want to download on the car hard drive but no other option. The music list doesn't come up either. Can't figure this one out. I also have stick inside the armrest which works no problem. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or is there something wrong with the plug in the glove???

Appreciate any advise....

Restarting (power off/on) the phone and/or the car sometimes solves these kind of glitches. Worth a try.

Yeah it's iPhone 4, your right time for a new phone. I think iPhone 5c is out there now...

I use the bluetooth connection, but I seem to remember something similar when I connected in the glove box. Armrest USB worked fine. The glove box USB might be for data only. Haven't researched thoroughly, but that may be the issue.

Oh yeah, missed where you mention you are using the glovebox USB. That will not work with the iPhone playback, just the one under the armrest does. The glovebox one is just for importing data/profiles/etc.

You think that's a joke but some people have gone as far as changing the car lol.

My buddy worked at a Mercedes-Benz dealer in San Diego until recently and I remember about a year or two ago when the iPhone 5 came out, he told me about a guy who bought a brand new Mercedes S63 AMG. He brought it back a week later saying he bought an iPhone 5 at launch and it wasn't properly working with his car as his iPhone 4 did. They said the car software wasn't ready for the iPhone 5 yet and he could either change the phone or the car (jokingly). To their surprise, he returned the car and wanted to exchange for another model that was ready for an iPhone 5. Guess they didn't expect that!

THEN a week later, another guy was halfway through signing in purchasing a new Mercedes SLS AMG. While the tech was setting it up, he came it telling the customer that it wouldn't properly sync his contacts because the iPhone 5's new software wouldn't communicate properly with the SLS. So he stopped with the papers and left without an SLS.

I guess for some people, Phone > Car.

Wow. Some people have the cash I guess. I can't imagine walking away from an SLS. I would walk away from Shakira before I walked away from the SLS

Thanks, I did not know that....which part of Ottawa are you from? My wife's from hull and we visit Ottawa quit a lot. She was really pissed about not being able to play her music and jokingly said we should return the car

What does this say about AMG owners??

Ali, I have an iphone 4 kicking around and can try it out in my car to see what I get. The US '14s don't have a usb in the glovebox though. I'll check the armrest port.

Solution: The Glovebox USB port is only and solely for importing/exporting User Profiles and Music, not streaming (Unless coded). The center console USB is the only one that can stream music.

Just used the Aux cable to connect the iPhone 4 in the arm rest. Seems to be working fine and I was also able to download the albums in the hard drive. Question is why it works with the Aux cable and not with the iPhone USB cord?? Anyone???

Ok I verified. If you connect an iphone 4 to the center console usb, it works as expected. IDrive will allow you to browse/play the music on your phone. As Halsifer said the USB in the glove box is not enabled for streaming. It only works for import/export of music and profiles to hard drive.

If you are connecting the phone to the usb in the center console and it still doesn't work, then maybe your cable is no good. And I don't think you can do anything with the Aux port other than send analog audio to the system. You can push music to the HD from Aux.
