2014 Bentley Continental GT V-8 S

How does a car that weighs 600 lbs more than the M5, with a smaller, less powerful engine than the M5 (4.0-liter, 521-hp, 502 lb-ft) get from 0 to 60, without launch control, in about the same time (3.9 sec) as the M5 competition package with launch control?

According to the same magazine, the M5 is .2s quicker to 60mph....but compare the time it takes both cars to get to 130mph... Bentley 15.8s, M5 13.1s. The 2.7s is an eternity. To illustrate the difference, the F10 M5 is "only" 2.8s slower 0-130mph than a Ferrari Enzo.

To me the real question is who drives at speeds of 60mph or less? And why are people obsessed with providing stats for those weirdos?

On local roads with traffic lights it can be fun to stomp on the pedal to get to 60 MPH and then back off. That was more fun in my 550xi with the dinan software. The M5 is better off on the highways and twisty roads. The 550 was awful on twisty roads.

You have to get to 60 before you get to 100.

It is asinine to expect 560+ hp at two wheels to be effective as 520 at 4. M5 has a traction issue off the line, nothing new here. Same reason an E63 can match a Viper and a ZR1 in the quarter mile despite being substantially heavier and down 50 hp. AWD is king from a dig.

Unless you are at a drag strip and have a good set of drag radials... that is a great equalizer. Sure you can throw drag radials on the AWD cars, but they will not be able to get a good enough (or any) burnout to properly heat them for optimal traction.
