Notes on a 2014 435i BimmerTech rear view camera install
Customer custom ordered a MY2014 435i but forgot to check the Rear View Camera option (Driver Assistance Package). Wife is pissed.
BimmerTech brings marital peace. Let's start at the trunk... Remove liner and remove OEM trunk handle... Transfer OEM trunk handle switch assembly to BimmerTech handle/camera assembly... Install new handle/camera... Run handle/camera cabling (left side of the car) to iDrive unit... Remove iDrive unit... 4-wire connection to OEM Quadralock connector and placement of camera module behind CIC/NBT using velcro... Interface cable connected to OEM monitor... And that's it... ... with dynamic guiding lines: Notes: - No programming required: BimmerTech module interprets OEM CAN messages for reverse and steering angle sensor so camera turns on and guiding lines activate only when reverse is engaged and steering wheel is turned - Camera module is also a video interface. DVD and portable video cameras can be connected and displayed via the OEM monitor. Remote control included. - 100% reversible back to stock. No permanent cuts/modifications to OEM wiring. |

Thanks for the review. I'm also interested in doing this instal. How do you run the cable on the left side of the car and up to the I drive unit? Is it visible/obtrusive?

Tuck the cable in under the OEM trim along the left side. No OEM trim or door sill need to be removed, just tuck it in. Take a look at your own car, tuck your fingers under the trim alongside the left side and you will know what I am talking about. |

That's strange that no coding was required.
I too purchased my vehicle without a backup camera but dealer was willing install it for me. After install, we haven't been able to code it as when we first attempted the module wasn't recognized during coding. I have verified that there is power and connections are secure at the module, but haven't had the chance to touch base with BimmerTech to try and code again. Is the camera retrofit you used the OEM one?

The OEM rear view camera system has an iDrive screen interface with controls and PDC visual limits integrated.
If you closely notice in the photos posted, this is no OEM system. Quote:

I've been thinking about doing this. Quick question, it appears from the manual online that you have to use a remote to turn on the camera when you want to use it. That true, or did I miss understand it?

No, camera is turned on by just engaging reverse (via CAN message).

Check out this video to see the camera in action. Great picture quality during the day and at night and very helpful dynamic parking lines make it the best rear view camera for all latest BMW vehicles.

No, the display interface cables are not that long for the video unit to be installed in the trunk. And there are no more OEM "units" in the trunk with the NBT Nav.

It makes no difference where the module is located. It works great! Last edited by Patrys@BimmerTech; 08-11-2014 at 01:57 AM.. |
