How much over invoice did you pay?

I've never bought a car in its first year before, so I'm used to paying $500-$1000 over dealer invoice. Curious how much of a premium dealerships insist upon when a car is new and in high demand.

Oops, I should have made the poll $0-299, $300-499, etc.

In todays world no one pays MSRP unless its a real hot item...most dealers will at least discount the car 2-3% unless you dont ask for a discount

But if theres "1" car that everyone wants...then the high bid always win

When I say "invoice", I mean dealer invoice, not MSRP.

I understand...either way you count it, it ends up the same X amount of money you pay

If you look at the pricing thread, you'd see all the deals that people are getting. Your ranges are a bit off as, according to that thread, the majority are in the 2k+ category with some being in the 1-2k and very very few at under 1k.

I got about $2k off MSRP and that was in April. I don't even know what invoice is in Canada.

Interesting...I only saw a pricing thread for M performance parts.

Can you post a link?

Also, from the results so far, it looks like the price may have dropped somewhat? (I know the sample size is very small, and people could be lying, but just saying.)

Don't worry...this is totally not scientific. Just trying to get a vague ballpark of what people are paying.

Also worth noting that the 228's were being discounted slightly heavier than the m235's. I think on your other thread you were talking about buying a 228 correct?

On my 228 I ended up about 5.75% under MSRP and that was before the $1,000 incentive was announced so taking that into consideration discounted just over 8%

Here you go:

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=934636

You'll find 43 pages worth of deals and other random stuff there. Pricing hasn't dropped too much. It's pretty much dependent on your dealer and how much you can get off.

If it was me, I'd have done this poll with how much off of MSRP (assuming you're discussing the 235), not how much above invoice. Since this car is still coming from dealer allocations, most people are negotiating MSRP - XXXX, not Invoice + XXXX. Yes, some may have been able to negotiate invoice plus but the vast majority are msrp minus.

Also, since a lot of people aren't always clear of what the invoice actually is, then the results may not be very accurate. MSRP minus would give you a much better idea, trust me.

If this were the 4 series, an invoice plus vote may be the best option. Not for the 2. Not yet at least. Later this year, probably.

I didn't even catch that. Yes, a 228 vs 235 is a big difference and the poll should be more clear.

The poll does not take into consideration how people would treat a dealer's documentation fee in answering the poll question. Some might pay X over invoice and have an $80 doc fee. Others might pay the same X over invoice and have an $800 doc fee.

Also, IMO the 228's have had larger discounts than 235's so it's hard to get meaningful information with simply stating how much someone got off invoice without know which car.

About 6% off MSRP (after $1,000 incentive).

Did not vote in the poll because I am not sure what the invoice is.. might want to add that to the initial post for reference.

Okay everyone. I admit it. This poll was very poorly thought out, and the results should be taken with a grain of salt. I just put it up quickly because I'm planning to talk price today with my dealer, and I wanted to see if the Edmunds TMV and Consumer Reports figures were somewhat inline with reality.

P.S. I didn't realize that the discounting was so widely different for M235is vs 228is. I'm going to be ordering a 228i, so the numbers for that are most relevant to me.

By my calculations, that would be about $400 over invoice.

So I was offered about 6.3% off MSRP for a 228i (total MSRP $37,175). This is about $245 over Edmunds TMV and $1180 over invoice. Does this sound a bit high for a 228i?

I bought mine in the same month the 2-series was released and I got $3.5k OFF MSRP. I can't even vote in your poll, cuz negative numbers aren't on there.

Are you taking into account incentive, or was there no incentive at that time? I find it hard to believe the dealership took a loss on a brand new model...
