2010 328xi Right Headlight LED Turn Signal Issue

Hi everyone,

New member, and this is my first post here - Just picked up a 2010 328xi about two months ago. Over the past few weeks, I have been encountering an issue where I receive an exterior lighting warning. The warning is intermittent, and has come up around four, five times.

I have been able to visually narrow down the problem to the right headlight LED turn signal.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, but as you can see, when I signal to the right, the right side blinker goes off, while the headlight turn signal does not.

My question is, is it likely that the LED turn signal assembly has gone bad? It isn't common to see LEDs go bad, but it does happen. Could it be a cabling issue? And, is it possible to replace just the LED turn signal within the headlight assembly, or, would I be looking to replace the whole headlight itself?

Thanks!

I think if you check realOEM diagrams the indicator is a separate piece so you don't have to replace the whole headlight.

But if your under warranty have it checked out.

I just noticed your post. I just made a very similar post, but in regards to one of my rear turn signals.

Unfortunately the car is no longer under warranty. Anything I can try out to see whether or not it is just the turn signal assembly itself, or a headlight/cable issue? Any step-by-step how-to available? I believe you need to remove the entire front bumper to remove the headlight.

Let me know how you end up resolving your issue. I think the taillights are much easier to access than the headlights.

You should be able to gain access to that LED module with removing the splash guard wheel well area. I believe it's held on by 3 screws. I'm actually taking mine off today to do some diagnostics as well but I have issues with the 3 LED marker on the side of it. I've heard a few issues of these LED signals going out on a few owners here so it's not the first time we've had one go out within a 3-4 year period.

First off run a multimeter to the contact points of the unit to diagnose if you are even getting power inside of the housing. If you are great then it's the led part that you must replace.
