Whoosh sound over 600rpm

Regardless of whether I'm in gear, my e92 335i started making a woosh sound at 6000rpm and higher, sort of like the sound compressed air makes but 100x as loud. Haven't seen any discharge. Any ideas?

Like Shafer said. Is it high a pitched whistle?

I don't think I'd describe it as high pitched, more of a moderate whirl. I assumed leak or belt

A boost leak is generally a high pitched whistle type sound.... I'm not sure if vacuum leaks have the same symptoms or not, but possibly vacuum issue. If you have a stock charge pipe, I would recommend a close inspection of that. Mine caused me about 3 months of frustration, until I removed it and looked at it closely in hand..... 3 cracks and a bad diverter.

Assuming that its a generic leak (vacuum, boost, etc) is it going to be OK to drive without risking a breakdown or going into limp mode?
