Annoying Interior Lighting Problem

I currently have an issue with a friends E92 where his lighting control module (footwell lighting module) has an error message on there that stops the module from supplying power to the lower bulbs in the vehicle (driver and passenger footwell, rear footwell, under door lighting). This is because the LED bulbs draw a lot less power than the halogen bulbs and have caused the module to cut power due to safety reasons apparently.

A specialist garage tried to reset the module and wipe the message but they couldn’t, however they did test the lights through their diagnostics machine and all of them worked fine, but when they tried getting them to illuminate off the battery without the diagnostics machine, they still didn’t work.

They then told him he would need to update the software in the box (£90) so the box would recognise the LED bulbs, but if that failed then he would need to purchase and install a new lighting control module box (£150-£200).

All of this seems expensive considering it was only the rear footwell LED's that somehow did this, and when i fitted my kit it all worked safe and sound first time. Has anyone had experiences like this? It would be preferable not to pay the £90 for it to not work, or is it worth just getting a new module and fitting it ourselves? My only concern is that it might happen again.

Any help would be appreciated guys sorry for the essay

Forgot to mention the bulbs are error free, it's not the first time i've installed these from the seller but it's the first time this happened
