Does anyone have plans to install a radar detector? I have been looking at the Escort 9500 Ci. Does anyone have any experience with this model?

Call me old school, but I am still in favor of arrows that show me in which direction is the threat or more importantly the false threat.

Valentine One and Laser Interceptor for me.

Good luck as I know people can feel strongly about this subject.

I'll just follow the speed limits, as always.

Hypocrisy goes extremely well with coffee!

Been running Valentine 1 with Laser Interceptor for a long time now and both of those combined with Waze on the iPhone while driving, is almost an unbeatable combination.

The V1 is great in most U.S. States but there a couple of drawbacks. It is not a great system for use in Virginia because it doesn't have anti-VG2 or anti-Stalker features. The V1 has no great defense against Instant On Radar either. The Bel StiR+ system fills that gap though. It has anti-radar detector capability and can defeat instant-on radar, the downside is that it doesn't give directional warnings like the V1 does.

http://store.gahighwaysafety.org/law...asp?itemid=400

I would say that Waze has now been responsible for over 50% of me avoiding a speeding ticket. I take every reported Cop car on the App seriously, although not every report is real.

I would say that Waze saves me about 70% of the time. Radar saves me about 15% of the time, Laser Jammers saves me about 2% of the time, and the other 13% of the time is just me driving smartly, knowing when and when not to try to drive spiritedly, and ALWAYS looking 360 degrees around me for cops. The Laser Jammers are just icing on the cake really though and have only really seriously saved me once in over a year with driving with them. The rest of the time I was actually lasered I wasn't even speeding. The Laser Jammers were the most expensive investment for me and that's even with doing a self-install. Usually installs for Laser Jammers cost anywhere between $1,000-$2,000 dollars, and that's just for the install. A Valentine 1 will average about $300 bucks, while the Waze App is FREE. A Bel StiR+ system will run you a couple of grand for system cost and install as well.

Oh and I haven't had a speeding ticket in over 9 years and have fully explored the limits of the F10 M5 in the United States of America with extreme prejudice.

My best single piece of advice I can give you though is never speed on the highway at night. If a Highway Patrol is not running radar while driving behind you, there is no way to know that he is there because it is dark and you can't see him otherwise. Also, never fly-off a highway on ramp at excessive speeds merging onto the highway. 5 times out of 10 there will be a Highway Patrol already on the highway behind you just as you merged onto the highway. Those aren't good odds.

This is just my experience, others results may vary. Good luck.

Yupp, V1 + LI is a good combo, however here where I drive they don't use stationary radars at all only lasers so LI would suffice

also if you didn't have V1, that LI would save you a lot more often than just one time

Im looking into getting that too, my friend has the passport MAX which isn't an install radar, but its pretty nice too. Also looking at that. Id imagine the 9500 ci is much better though.

I have on the Valentine 1, it is an incredible device, it does work rather well.

***However, and I don't want to sound like a disclaimer on the box of any of these radar devices but;

You have to use your judgement, you cannot rely on these machines 100% of time, because you will get nailed. Always keep tabs on your mirrors, who is around you, who is front, blind corners, and anywhere where it seems likely a cop will be sitting, he probably is. He also doesn't have to get you on radar to know you're doing something wrong so be weary.

As I tell most of my friends, think about the multitude of things you have to think about during the course of a day; your job, your girl, your kids, your family, money*, all that type of stuff is a lot right? Well, the patrolman is only thinking about one thing, where he can sit and hide in the best possible position to catch you sleeping at 80-85mph and write you up. So just keep in mind that radars are nice but they're not guaranteed. and when cops see the ///M logo, they like to stick the knife in just a little harder...

Top three detectors: Beltronics STi-R+, Escort Redline, and Valentine V1.

The STi-R+ is remote install (like the 9500ci), the Redline is the most sensitive, and the V1 is the greatest situational awareness enhancement device available today. The V1, unlike the other two, can be detected by radar detector detectors.

Pair any of these three with a laser jammer if you're in a state that allows such things. In addition to the Laser Interceptor, consider the new AntiLaser Priority as an alternative.

BTW, all of these units, while you can consider them plug and play, really start performing and come in to their own when configured correctly and customized for the way you drive and the area you do your driving. Do your research.

Cheers.

OK guys I am convinced: time to upgrade my radar detector (which I have almost never used and is simply sitting in my glove compartment collecting dust).

I want a detector that does it all and is not detectable. Based on this last post that would NOT be the V1. Which of them is best? Bel or Escort?

Does anyone know if the lane departure, blind spot warning or anything else on the car will interfere with a radar detector?

The Redline is windshield mounted. The STi-R+ is remote mount (i.e. the detector part installs on the outsides, e.g. the grill, and the electronics, display and controls inside, hence harder to install but cleaner looking when done right) and has GPS. But the STi-R+ is significantly more expensive. Set up correctly, they are very near in sensitivity, one besting the other sometimes, the other way at other times. You choose which is best.

Cheers.

I can say the redline is a great radar detector probably the best I have ever had. I just want something that is installed this time around.

That would be the Beltronics STi-R+. Same antenna. Configure the same with segments 2, 5, and 8 on, only, plus RDR off. It's as good as the Redline. The difference in performance I mark it down to the STi-R+ head usually being mounted low and outside, whereas the RL is usually mounted inside up high. Good luck.

Cheers.

Here is a picture from my Cayenne where I had the arrows and strength meter of Valentine laser etched into mirror and the silence/volume button buried in dash within arms reach.

It does when its on other cars. I constantly get K band falses on the V1. However, some who have such cars report mixed results whether their detector falses or not, but it usually does. Unfortunately, although you can shut off the nannies, in almost all cases it just shuts off the reporting to the driver -- the radar and laser still fires off and interferes with detectors. If you have these I'd say try it, and as always, YMMV.

Cheers.

Antilaser Priority seems to be the best jammer ATM. I've been researching this a lot the past month while I wait for my M3! They can even couple it with the Beltronics STI radar detector. The only thing I don't like is their Bluetooth module only works with apple products ATM....

Do you use it all the time (city and highway)?
I have only used it on long distance drives in terms of LEO spotting, which wasn't that useful (but as more drivers use it the better it is).

I use Waze too. It's an additional layer for me. It can pick up, for example, an LEO using VASCAR, whereas no radar detector will alert to VASCAR. However, like you say, it's not 100%. Nothing is. It does work better where there are more drivers -- not so well on long interstate drives. But my commute to work is from a fairly rural area into the big city. I get lots of warnings, not only to LE but other hazards. Some are just noise, but other alerts help immensely. For me, I use it all the time, not just commuting.

Cheers.

I have a V1 with V1connection LE as well as custom sweeps enabled (whole different level of performance) hooked up to a Savvy (quiets it down around town). Very simple install and easy to remove without permanent modifications.

I also keep Waze open when I can and/or remember. It has saved me many times, especially on longer trips. Although, I would love to find a way to get Waze to display on iDrive screen.

I am also considering an ALP but the V1 w/sweeps and Waze is an amazing combo.
