Can some confirm if the IDrive hidden menus are available in ID7? If so where does the service menu appear please.

Try doing this and the menu should appear...

Press the "Menu" button to reach the main screen, then press the iDrive controller in the up position for 8 seconds.
Rotate it three clicks to the right then three clicks to the left
Then one to the right
One to the left
One to the right
Then press the controller knob again.

Your iDrive menu will show a new option, "Service menu" at the bottom

"No GPS Available"

Thanks for the thread. I have the same problem as the OP - map showing me in completely the wrong location. I accessed the hidden menu, but instead of the 'Check Antenna' message, I have 'No GPS Available'. Could the cause be the same problem with the antenna? How would I be able to diagnose this?

Cheers

My 2018 X3 M40i (G01) started losing position a week ago and I thought it was just an accuracy problem. Kept putting me just off the motorway, the way it runs for a few seconds when you ignore a motorway exit.
Today it got worse and finally failed. Got directional orientation OK but location is now stuck at 100 miles away.
I've just gone into the Service Menu and got "GPS Status: Check Antenna" too.
I've had a look at replacement parts and can't find a definitive part code but it looks like the G range (G01 - X3, G30 - 5 series) all use the same electronics platform for comms and nav. Pricing from ebay seems to be around £65 for reclaimed units but not had a chance to get a dealer supply and fit price yet.

I just checked and the X3 is not listed down for the part I fitted. It has a different part number. The dealer should be able to advise which one you need... It depends on the options/spec you have that will determine which part number you need for the antenna. Have a look on realoem.com - that should be helpful and you might be able to work it out from there.
These are a few of the antenna part numbers listed for an X3 G01...

65209291484
65208794527
65208795961
65208795963

If it were me, I'd just buy a new one rather than a reconditioned one... just for piece of mind and less hassle if it turns out to be faulty or goes wrong in a few months or so.

Thanks, I’d read a post referencing the realoem site. I’ll need to dig out my original order to work out the options.
It’s in for a brake fluid change next week so may just end up with the “just fix it” conversation 😂

Would you mind sharing what the two parts you fitted cost?

I've got it booked in on the 15th Jan. If you can wait that long I'll let you know whet their proposed fix and cost is.

I paid £132.76 for both parts. I fitted them myself

Well the car is in at the moment and first off they have stung me for £200 to upgrade the software before they can do any diagnostics. The service advisor has just rung and said they want to try a donor antenna to see if that is the problem and also recon it could need a new TCB even though the only error is saying the car is past the TCB service date.
I downloaded the telematics car data archive from the BMW portal last week and couldn't see any codes relating to the GPS system but a couple relating to the DAB antenna.

For the antenna replacement, did you need to remove the shark fin from the top or were you able to install the module from inside?

Yes, the shark fin cover needs to come off. The Telecoms box behind the headliner needs to be disconnected from the antenna. The Antenna is screwed in from the top.

Following the £193 for a mandatory software update before they would carry out any diagnostics, they have quoted £650 for replacing the GPS antenna. £73 for the part and the rest is labour including colour matching the replacement shark fin. Apparently the fin and gasket are a single unit. Plus the £93 for the original brake fluid change and a bit of discount, £847.59 in total...
Nothing I can do now about the software update charge but I've just ordered the antenna plus a TCB battery for while I'm in there.

Has anyone else had this where they insist on charging for a software update before they will do any diagnostics?

Hello,

I have the same problem as you with the navigation system on my F20 LCI(2017). When I entered in the hidden menu I got this message “no GPS available”
Can you tell me please if you found the solution for this problem?

Glad to learn about the hidden menus and that there seem to be solutions to this problem. I have never had a GPS problem with either of my BMWs, but I did once in my 2016 Corvette Z06. We were using the nav system to go from our home up into northern Wisconsin. Up around Sheboygan we were on the freeway when all of a sudden the nav screen went blank of roads and simply said "Off Road", as if we were Four Wheeling. Turns out, just after the the nav system was made, they built a section of the freeway we were on where rural roads and farmland had been before. The nav system simply didn't know; it thought we were in a cornfield. Once we got in to our destination city it recovered and was accurate from then on. --Bob

I'm not sure about a G20... maybe someone has found a way and posted it on the G20 forum

This article is a real find that has saved me a lot of money and the detail from various contributors guided me to the Root Cause of my problem which was exactly what junebug stated. My issue actually started out as the dreaded Emergency Call Not Available message covering the mileage readouts on my BMW Gran Turismo G32 6 Series M SPORT.
So I stripped the rear covers etc to allow me to drop the roof liner to access the Telematics Control Unit and when I removed the Backup Battery it was 0 Volts ( should be 8 V ). This cured the problem but a week later it was back again, so I stripped all the rear panels again to access the Telematics Control Unit and again the new Backup Battery was 0 Volts. Turned out after reading the Errors with Bimmerlink reported error on the Telematics Control Unit was Backup Battery Short Circuit to Ground. So I had to buy a Telematics Control unit. Fitted this with a new Backup Battery and sorted the Emergency Calls Not Available issue, but now even after my new Telematics unit being coded and I had manually entered my exact position, as soon as I moved the car even 1 inch forward the location jumped on the screen to a point in the middle of the sea 10 miles away. I obtained a new antenna and dropped the Telematics Control Unit down from the one on my car roof, clipped in the new Antenna and tested the system up still showing the same position 10 miles out. Thanks to reading this post where junebug stated about having to go for a drive before the position locked in to the correct location, I went for a short drive and after travelling 100 yards my position suddenly jumped on the screen from the middle of the sea to exactly where I was. If I had not read this article, I was going crazy as nothing was getting my problem solved and I was on the verge of handing my car to BMW to sort it and they had quoted me £2000+ as they were going to replace the Telematics Control Unit with a brand new one, they flat refused to fault find on my replacement Telematics Control unit because it had not been purchased from and fitted and coded by BMW, and they would not help in any form or fashion, actually they were very awkward about the whole thing. So I am very grateful to all who contributed to this thread, it has been invaluable and contains great helpful information.
