Hello,
CONFESSION TIME! 5 days ago, I got pale pink wet nail polish on my boyfriend's 540i xDrive interior trim by the right passenger seat window (see #8 on the sketch) and photo attached - I didn't notice until later and it already dried!! There has been no change when using water to remove the stain. I'm not sure whether I can use acetone or acetone-free nail polish remover safely without ruining the underlying material (is it plastic?). What kind of cloth should I use to rub it off without leaving marks/more scratches? Also, what material even is the black part in the photo? I don't see it in the details section of the BMW window sticker when the car was built. Also, any advice for which product to use to wipe away the fingernail scratches (other than getting the full interior detailed)? Thanks!! P |

I tested a small spot with a isopropyl alcohol-containing wipe (a screen cleaner that is for electronics and also contains a few other ingredients--but not acetone), and nothing happened ![]() |

Stick to alcohol. Nail polish remover is acetone. I wouldn’t use it, it’ll likely corrode the plastic.

Nail polish remover from the store usually does have a less concentrate of acetone than the acetone at the salons. (Wife and her family has nails salons) Alcohol will likely be a better choice because the acetone will most likely fade or dull that plastic. But it will be much harder to get off especially if it’s gel polish.
Good luck getting it out. We had some something similar in our older Macan and I had to end up using acetone. |

THANK YOU!
ALL GONE, but plot twist: my boyfriend is a genius and handled it before I could (and didn't kill me). Isopropyl 70% on a soft cleaning cloth did the trick. Thanks for all the suggestions!!

And he didn't break up with you immediately???
Use a heat gun on it's lowest setting or a hair dryer to soften in, then alcohol.

Be careful what chemicals are used to remove the nail polish...the "soft touch" coating is fragile and will disolve and melt with anything too harsh.
