Pre LCI Full Screen Carplay?

On my 2018 M550i, CarPlay takes only the left 2/3 of the display and the right 1/3 of the screen is programmable to the compass, current playing media, or the name of the phone, etc. Pretty useless since CarPlay can do all that in floating screens. Is there a way to make CarPlay take the entire screen?

I hired someone for $50 bucks. I did this the day I took delivery and full screen has held since.

If your software is relatively older, he can make you a bin file to put on a USB stick and you plug it in and it executes. The dealer updated my software before delivery which locked out bin file uploads, so my guy created an executable file. I plugged my laptop in and ran it. Done. All he needed was my VIN.

His name is Gerry and I sourced him from here.

Here is his email.

You can do all of this easily with protool if you have android or Bimmercode on ios. Then you can always make changes to any coding very very easily in the future as well.

Keep an open mind, both Bimmercode and Protool vary on success based on the software you are running. Bimmercode is often locked out of the Headunit.

I have both Bimmercode and Protool, but it's been a LONG since I have gone in for coding with either because everything has been perfect.

Regardless, Bimmercode is a must to have in your Toolbox and worth the $50 bucks or whatever they charge now. Protool is more of an investment. Need to have an Android device to run it and then an approved adapter and the licence is like $100.. I think I spent almost $250 on it including the Tablet, Adapter and full License. It's very powerful. If you are ever thinking of trying Protool, it is in your best interest to get an Adapter that is compatible with both Bimmercode and ProTool, such as MHD.

I coded my 2019 540xi exclusively with bimmercode because its so easy, I wasn't aware newer softwares have issue with coding.

Protool is definitely more of an investment but it's a really handy tool. I have the MHD universal and an android phone so it wasn't too bad but protool is the one I'd keep if I could only have one.

I was able to use it when I put a 435 sport seat in my 135, it was the only method available at the time to change the VO and make the airbag light go out for the seat side airbag etc. It's very powerful but also can be used for simple coding.

I could have done in it ISTA, but I'm still scared to use ISTA to update my car's software despite having everything ready to go and working in IT, so that says something LOL.

Agreed on all your points, Protool is outstanding. With regard to my comment on issues, I was speaking specifically on accessing the head unit for the purposes of enabling full screen car play. I have read people having issues with Bimmerode being allowed to access it after an update.

Hell, if you have Bimmercode, worth trying before hiring someone for sure.

I got locked out when I updated my maps using the WDS installer. When I go back to "stock," I lose all map data, I'm not sure if that allows me to code the HU as I haven't tried. I was supposed to get with Gerry late last year to try and resolve the issue, but I got busy and haven't pursued the problem. Other than that, Bimmercode has allowed me to code the things I wanted coded.

What is the WDS installer? I'm considering updating the maps in my 2019 540, but I don't think it's worth being locked out of anything. So you said you updated maps, now you can't code the headunit basically?

Pretty much; I can still code the other modules. It didn't happen when I installed the previous mapset.

OK...Just did it! So easy!!!

I ordered this Bluetooth OBD adapter from Amazon. I think it was $50. It was the cheapest one that was on the BimmerCode page.

Downloaded the Bimmercode app and paid for the full version. $50.

Set the CarPlay to Full screen. Code. BAM.

It’s more of a show off thing for passengers. That said, I can’t remember the last time I used it. Why do it? Why not? Nothing to lose by having it enabled, even if you don’t use it.

I want this too but I have to upgrade my NBT software to N or higher otherwise the bimmercode coding will not have any effect.

I unlocked carplay with bimmer remote, however I was not completely happy because now my headunit module is " locked" for coding with bimmercode and OEM reverse is also not working. So I'm stuck with a 2/3 screen carplay without the possibility to code.

So I have bimmercode and in bimmercode I have enabled the fullscreen option but it leaves that other right side just white and blank rather than going fullscreen. Does my car need a software update or something? (2019 540i xDrive)

You need a firmware update. Go on Ebay, spend $25. Easiest way to do it. Just search for Fullscreen Carplay. You'll get the firmware revision on USB, flash and you're done.
