I don't care so much about the look, the current one already looks fantastic with M package. The important things are steering, handling, weight reduction, and a good engine sound, I would love to see a sport exhaust as an option in a standard configurator.

Then, I would like to see less plastic and more metal in the interior, to make it on pair with the Mercedes.

I think that it would be good for BMW to finally make some more radical changes to the interior. The interior design is OK, but but its getting a bit boring, its bin around in a similar form for too many years. One of the main reasons for me why I am considering E class as well is just to change interior, I cannot even say that Mercedes has better interior but I need refresh after 11 years of basically same design language in my last two BMWs. Few years ago, Mercedes did a bold move and completely changed its interior, I think BMW should do the same. I know it will not happen in this generation, but I think they should do it sooner than later.

With you on this one, after all the dashboard has to be spot on since this is the part of the car we spend most of the time behind as owner and driver, I love the job they BM did with the current 6 series.
We updating our other car the family X3 and we simply find the X5 more or less the same, hence maybe switching for the Jag F-Pace just to have a complete feel of anew car, plus I believe subject to test driving the Jag they more or less good at the sporty feel like BM's.

My suggestion, forget about Jaguar and go try Porsche Macan, you will not be disappointed for sure.

I am sure we will, but we have to fit 3 kids in the back, the F-Pace fit between the X3 and the X5 size wise, and apparently good for driving.
The Porsche is even smaller than the X3 cabin wise.
Still planning to add a 997 at one stage ideally the 2nd generation for driving, or Z4 m coupe the 1st generation.

This car has barely changed from the current gen. BMW is going to loose to competition this time.

It has changed and will look like a combo of the current 3 series and 7 series. Check out my renders in this thread. Insiders from BMW say it's pretty much spot on...

I've noticed that the wagon has different "angel rings" for the headlights... Must be a version with xenon headlights VS the more squared off version with full LED headlights...

You are right but owning the vehicle after the BMW you will discover how much you miss many of the driving and daily use refinements that will be missing.

The substance in the BMW product is class leading but they have to address the issue of moving the design of the products to something new without losing thier identity and character.

I agree with you, what is worst the interior look like they just used the 7 series one!
Looks like they turning into Audi from design wise as well as creating models for marketing only, all looks the same just different in sizes.
Maybe it’s time to venture into a Jag or Alfa's even with the gamble on reliability, a risk worth taking since they tend to match BMW's in sport driving experience, this way it will give me the full new car feeling, or the next 3 series/ grand 4 coupe since this range will grow to a size near the outgoing f10 or e60 5 series.

But you mentioned that you need a big family car, Alfa has nothing to offer there. And you would be disappointed with the interior quality and number of small issues.

If you need a bigger SUV, different than BMW, take a look at Maserati Levante. Of course check out F Type, but I think that you would be disappointed by cheap interior and lots of cheap plastic inside. Additionally their engines are absolute.
I would stick to proven brands, BMW, Merc, Porsche, if you wish something exotic, go with Maserati, they also have very competitive pricing for Levante.

I drive an F10, my wife X3 is the family car and the one we changing 1st because of the issues we had with it, simply a lemon car as called by our dealer! the comment below was regarding changing my F10 also planned for 2017, and once the family car is taken care off as the priority!
On my side as long as my car can fit 4 (3 kids plus me) we should be good, hence me thinking of the Grand coupe 4 also as I believe the new 5 is the old 7, or maybe the Grand coupe 6, I love the design specially the headlight pre-facelift with the indicator further in.
The bottom line is if we go for 2 brand new cars just like we did in 2011, it’s only good if the heart is in, factor depreciation of new cars these days and how models do not live longer then they use to, it is simply a disaster to go for new without the heart in.

this doesn't look much different from the current 5er....l think bmw should step up big time in the design department..if not - they will start to lose even their current fanbase because l'm tired of the same ol stuff....
