M3 Dct Or manual Transmission, PLease dont hate me.

I'm looking into buying a 2010+ m3 e92, but i can't seem to choose between the two transmissions. I know this has been addressed a million times, PLEASE FORGIVE ME! How is the reliability/maintenance of a dct transmission vs the manual? I'm leaning more towards the DCT because that is the way of the future right ? and my manual skills are meh ( only experience of manual trans is driving my friends scion frs for a couple of days). But if the manual trans is more reliable, i guess i'd go manual tran. I am in dire need of the experienced m3 owners advice. Thanks a lot guys.

If you are on the fence, get DCT. Only get the manual if you truly love a manual. For me, in terms of driving enjoyment, it isn't even close. Manual for sure.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I love the feeling of driving a stick~~~6MT for me.

The manual is infinitely more reliable than the DCT. That is a fact that cannot be disputed. The DCT suffers from oil pan leaks, electrical/software gremlins that the MT does not.

If you feel the need to be .0006673 seconds faster get the DCT. If you want more long term reliability and better driving experience, get the 6MT

UNLESS someone can counter argue that the dct is more reliable? or at least reliable long term. I just need to really know if and what dct owners faced with the transmission or if they faced anything at all. Then end thread.

don't get into reliability of both,
just drive both and go for what you prefer! You can't go wrong either
btw, I have 6mt, but I wish I had got DCT.

Bro, don't worry about these idiots. It's a legit question but perhaps you can search first and maybe link the threads that you looked at already.

There is a not a lot of information about reliability because the DCT hasn't gone bad many times, and if it did, most of it was repaired under warranty. Now that cars are getting older, you may be hearing more DCT reliability threads. I would *think* the manual trans would be absolutely bullet-proof. I haven't heard any 6MT issues in the years on these threads...but I'm sure there are cases out there.

The DCT however is a phenomenal transmission. It is even better than the PDK in my 911 Turbo S. The engagement is exciting and makes me feel like I'm driving a f()cking F1 car every day.

Good luck.

Well when I was a young whippersnapper we used to have to choose the gears manually by moving a grease-caked chain to the next cog by hand. In the rain. Meanwhile the exhaust flames were burning the side of your face and the spark ignitors would repeatedly short to the steering column and light up yer ass like Xmas. So all you young-uns that haven't paid your dues and learned the true meaning of shifting like a manly man's man better get that MANual trans and learn to love it like it was yer dear ol' momma.

BTW, I got the DCT and it's a winner.
