I am beginning to get M3 rock fever

So there is this thing that people who move from the mainland to Hawaii call rock fever. Basically they feel claustrophobic because its islands and there is nowhere to go (except the beach). Being born and raised here I never felt it. Until I moved to Vegas for 6 years and bought my M3. Now I have moved back and shipped the M3 back here. Now every time I drive the car I get frustrated because there is no wide open driving roads like there were in Nevada. And the traffic and roads are pretty bad here. And there is currently no track to drive. Don't get me wrong I am happy to be back home, surfing and all the other great things. Oh well that's tough I guess... Aloha all.

I thought that very thing when I was in Hawaii three or so years ago. I recall never seeing a speed limit higher than 55?

I recall a good amount of downtown traffic in Honolulu throughout the week and everytime I saw a performance car I felt an uneasiness in my stomach. It was like I knew that the experience anyone would have in any of those cars would be nerfed or neutered because you can't just let it rip. You do have some great mountain roads though. I think that would have to suffice. It's not like I do any better on a daily basis in LA with its 25-35 mph max limits all over town and the grids of stop signs and traffic signals.

Just get a loud exhaust. Maybe it'll make you feel like you're going faster.

Grass is always greener brah.

After a couple years there never driving my ///M I sold it. Just drove a beater Honda to the north shore or wherever to surf and a POS SUV for most everything else. I didn't care about cars like I do here in SoCal because in Hawaii there is so much other cool shit to do, particularly if you love water sports.

Now, all I can think about is moving back there. And I'd ditch my cars in a heartbeat.

Yeah, you can cover all the roads in Oahu pretty quickly, and none of them are all that great from a twisties point-of-view. The road to Hana in Maui is pretty fun, but it's always loaded up with tourists. I'm happy that NorCal has so many great roads, especially along the North coast coming off of Hiway 1. I've done them all on my Ducati and look forward to driving some of them in the M3. But the surf here is ice cold!

that is one of the reasons Hawaii will always be a vacation spot and not a home.

I surfed the island outside Bodega Bay when I was there last year. Cold and sharkey. Fort Point in San Fran was probably the most un-friendly place I have ever surfed, and that's saying something surfing on Oahu. Caught Ocean Beach pretty good a couple times. But I definitely love the warm water here.

Geez, that's harsh. I've got in about 30 hours this year on the rural twisties in Mendocino County and have yet to see a single CHP. Guys on sport bikes frequently exceed 100 mph and carry long wheelies (a reckless driving violation here-- 2 points/$1000). Ahh, the wilderness (or what passes for it now)...

Ironically, they been re-paving all these virtually unused roads like mad, and the busy streets close to home are crumbling!

That's cool, i've always had a slight discomfort whenever thinking about people driving nice cars in places like Hawaii because of how geographically isolated and small the islands are.

Never knew there was a term for that "running out of road" feeling.
Great to learn something new. Enjoy your M in good health.
