Cold air coming through ash tray

Just noticed when I have the AC going that the transmission tunnel gets really cold. I flipped open the ashtray and cold air was coming through. Just had the evaporator core replaced and they said that the dash comes off for that. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the air ducts that feed the rear vents are leaking. I suspect the techs didn't reassemble quite right.

When the center console goes back in, there are two covers that get installed over the holes where the mounting points are. If these aren't installed, the center console isn't sealed and the air going to the rear vents will blow in there.

My pleasure.

I had the same issue and the dealer was worthless even after taking it to them 2-3 times for the issue. I was getting a lot of air blowing in the shifter boot. After I got those covers and put them on, it fixed that and the rear vent strength.

Good luck!

Hey guys,
I don't have air blowing through the ashtray, but during the summer time when I have my AC on, the area around ashtray and gearbox gets really cold, so cold to a point that on a really humid day it gets moist and damp around there.

During the winter when I have heat on, it gets really really hot.

I addressed this issue at my dealer several times as well, but they said without proper evidence they cannot go on to investigate/repair.

I asked them to jus put on AC or Heat for 10~20 minutes and see how hot the area becomes, they said they couldn't see anything wrong.

BS because I had the car for 2 yrs and I had this problem every summer/winter season.

What's wrong with it? It's not supposed to be really cold/hot like this around that area, right?

Also, the air vent (compared to my family's Lexus or Land Rover), the blowing air is so weak...

Get one of those meat thermometers and stick in in the little opening on the upper left side of the ash tray. You will feel cold air coming through. During a hot day with the ac on the thermometer will read about 50 degrees. That will be proof of the leak. My car in in the shop now. Will keep you posted.

The connection to the back AC had come apart and the techs had to plug it.

I don't feel the air, but my transmission tunnel/center console is cool to the touch. Do I have the same issue? I feel like the duct work to the rear probably is cooling the center console.

Besides this item, the entire HVAC system on the car is horribly designed IMO
