In regards to Dave's signature about wondering what the next generation of M will bring...at least the M5/6 can give a 458 a run for the money. It is embarrassing the 458 up until about 100 mph from a roll.

I sure hope they lose a little weight. The power is crazy.

Yeah the 458 can't match the torque punch of the M6's Twin Turbo V8 engine, but like in the video at higher speeds, the weight of the M6 begins to show and the vastly superior aerodynamics and far lighter weight of the 458 begin to show at speeds get higher and higher.

That 458 engine with that exhaust though, seriously, I would never want another car no matter how fast it was, if I was able to own a 458 with that exhaust. It sounds like a straight up F1 car. For me it's not all about speed, horsepower and performance, I value the sound of the exhaust note the most, because it makes the experience exponentially more fun. Driving around a 458 that sounded like a real F1 car would probably be the Zenith of my car owning experience.

Yeah it is pretty amazing. I differ a bit in that I like to be able to pretty much line up next to anything. I have the most beautiful 458 spider due in this week and I am passing on it because I think the truly most insane car we have ever seen, barring the La Ferraris, P1s, etc. is going to be the new M458-T. The styling will be more like the Speciale' and will have larger front scoops and side scoops and the turbo engine will produce around 700 hp stock. It may not sound quite as good as the NA 458 but Ferrari will surely make it sound impressive. It is possible to have a great sound from a turbo car. My 12C sounds crazy! No, it is not like the 458 sound. Tim was at my house the other night in his and when he was revving it we were drooling!

I will say though that the BEST sound is the Ferrari V12. That FF I drove for a weekend sounded insane!

That is fantastic. I would love to freak people out on the road when they see flames coming from my car all the time. LOL!!!

True dat. I think the M458T is probably going to outclass the 650S and Huracan. Like Bonkers Fast x 10. I do think that Ferrari is going to make that Turbo engine sound like a real Ferrari too. I read somewhere that Ferrari is going to go through great lengths to ensure the new 458T will sound good! I do love the sound of the 12C too, super awesome!

Wouldn't surprise me if that FI exhaust is the same exact exhaust setup as iPE sells. They're both from Taiwan and the components look very similar lol.

The Manhart car has some "tweaks" that make it produce high HP, not the tune alone. I wouldn't say this really shows anything in terms of the performance of a stock M6 vs. a stock 458.

How much do you know about the Manhart cars? Just curious. How many do you see around? Know why?

This car has some "tweaks" that make it produce high HP, not the tune alone. Not exactly anything you see on any US cars.
ColdList, I know a little about German tuner Manhart:

At Stage 1, the power increases from 560 hp to 620 hp. This due to optimizing the engine software. At Stage 2, the power increasesto 640 hp and 760 Nm of torque thanks to Manhart Racing downpipes. Stage 3 consists a new silencer and carbon fiber air intake. This creates a power of 670 hp and 790 Nm of torque. Stage 4 consists more adjustments to the engine and the engine management.

http://www.autogespot.com/bmw-m6-by-...re-than-700-hp!

I guess they claim 700+ HP for Stage 4

My intention about posting this video was not to claim that "M6 can keep up with 458"... everybody knows the rolling start racing is all about power/weight ratio and for sure a much lighter 458 (more than 1000 lbs) with almost the same power (maybe a little less?) of a bigger, heavier M6 is the winner! The same reason your new McLaren beats your previous 911 TTS at higher speed. I just posted the video here to claim exactly what @Soooma said... "M6 is no slouch".... The issue is that you always compare M5/M6 with "super cars" which is not fair however it's a good credit for a car to be compared with super cars! To me M5/M6 are amazing GT cars. Is M6 as fast as McLaren or 458 or Huracan or Aventador? Ofcourse not and is not supposed to be, but does it worth to pay half or third of price of those "super cars" to get this car? I would say yes! (IMO)

Yeah, I know Manhart quite well and so as to avoid revisiting a controversial topic from long ago, let's just say that I know a few insiders behind various aspects of those cars/tunes.

And yep. Loved the M cars so much I bought 2.

My point was simply that you can't make blanket assessment about merits of cars when looking at tuned cars. Running a RUFF against a Viper and smoking it does not give validity to a conclusion that "Porsches smoke Vipers". That's all.

No denying however that the M cars have serious power. Every time I hop in the M6 after not driving it for months it puts a smile on my face. I still enjoy it although it is my wife's DD. Moved it from the garage yesterday for the retailer and that roar was so sweet. Always tempts me to take it for a cruise. With the DP she spins the tires at 40 mph if you are not careful when switching lanes and hitting the gas!

Back to our regularly scheduled programming. A discussion of how loud the grandpa inspiring tired out old 458 is. Your thoughts Tim? Tim....where are you?-hahahaha! Man, that thing sounded INSANE on our drive the other night-wow! If you guys have never heard one of these things under revs in real life, it is something as a car guy that you must experience!

My M5 is faster than my last modded F458. My F458 had straight pipe exhaust and custom ecu dyno tune.
