at the crossroad of sell or keep modding?

I've had my M for about 2 years. Love it like a child, everything is just so good. Typically I get to about the 2 year mark on any car and I am just ready for something new but with this car I just don't know. It's sort of like I'm tired of looking at it but not driving it.
So here's my dilemma. The car has 66k miles and has never had an issue. Do I sell it or keep modding to make it...different. I owe about what it's worth, so I could probably get out of it with minimal loss. If I do some significant mods like BBK, supercharger, coilovers, etc. Then obviously I'm putting a lot into it. That money could be put towards a new Boxter or even a 911.
I guess the ultimate question is this; maxed out M3 or another, newer high performance machine. I'm not interested in the M4 unfortunately, or this would be easy.

Insight or opinions?

Don't want to be, "that guy" but maybe you should put that money towards paying it off instead? It sounds like you still owe quite a bit on it. I know that's not what you were asking but it would be a shame to put more money into something that is depreciating and not paid off.

Just my thoughts...

Supercharge, upgrade the rod bearings and drive it hard for another 3-4 years!

If you mod, do coilovers. It will completley change the car.

Don't mod it, get rid of it. Seriously I have been there, exactly where you are. I got tired of a car, I then modded it out, 12 months later I was still tired of it. Tons of wasted money never recovered...and I still sold it.

I'm like you 2 years max, gotta move on...too many great cars to drive and love.

That's my .02 cents.

IMHO keep it and add a S/C and springs and brake kit. That will cost less the depreciation but will transform the car and give you that new car rush as it will be MUCH more powerful and lighter on it's feet. you also get the satisfaction of having the ONLY V8 M3 ever and the last bespoke M motor. I did what you did, sold my 2011 M3 and 5 months bought a 2013 M3. I missed that S65!

Yeah, no worries, i appreciate your concern for my finances. I do understand what your saying but the point is that I'm getting tired of it now. Paying it off or lowering the payment doesn't change that.

At 66k the brakes and suspension seem fine, however they'll need to be replaced at some point which is another reason I'm considering this. If I change shocks and brakes I can't NOT upgrade because I'm a sicko, just like all of you.

Having the V8 is the biggest thing to me. I think it has a sound and uniqueness that is only replicated by some pretty exotic machinery.

It all depends on what car you can get if you sell. For me my m3 is a lease. I am turning it in and most Likely getting a c7. If I couldnt get something like that I would just keep the m3 and supercharge it

^ new c7 Z06 is one of the best looking cars I've seen in a long time. I did read about some engine issues on the new vettes though. I think one of the auto rags reported a blown engine among other undisclosed issues. Not sure if it's first model yr issues or GM issues. Regardless, new vettes look amazing in the right trim and colors.

there is talk of engine problems. Although GM does have a great warranty, and i think its just a simple case of first year problems.

i would get a second year. Plus i am probably going to mod the shit out of the car years later. Do a build up of the engine after make some real modding money over time. people are seeing really good gains on this motor.

The stingray is one of the few cars I would trade my M3 and my M6 for. Save big bucks by only having one too! Tempting...

If you love the M3 and like the V8 and the powerband, a supercharger just takes it to another level. Like Ferrari 458 level. The powerband is in fact extreme similar. And the blown M3 sounds fantastic with a good aftermarket exhaust, particular Akra GT4 or Evo. I find that I don't need the use of upgraded brakes except at the track.

Everyone that rides in my 650 S/C M3 and then rides in my faster 700+ HP 911 Turbo S likes the M3 better. There is just something about the whole package...the comfort, the interior, the fantastic stereo, the way the car sounds, the look, the DCT engagement, the insane powerband where the tires start spinning at 8K, etc. etc. It's an amazing machine.

I love cars and am fortunate to experience all the new stuff and there is nothing I would rather have as a daily driver right now than a S/C DCT e92 ZCP M3.

I've had my M3 for 3.5years now and can't see myself getting rid of it, that screaming S65 with a blower is just too addictive, also there's nothing in the same price range that could give me as much fun and reliability.

Two years ago, before putting the blower, I really liked the car but was missing the turbo torque from my previous cars, now that I have the VT1 and test pipes to unleash the beast, I just could'nt see myself not been able to bring this engine to 8300rpm on a regular basis, it's so therapeutic!!

Look around for used parts on this forum, a lot of members are parting out their E9x, I just bought a set of KW V3s with 10k miles on them for 1250$, at this price it's almost an investment!

Also I've had my VT1 for two years now and never really felt that I needed a BBK, If you track your car it's an other story but still, you can get a Stop tech ST40 for 2500$ that will be more then enough!

Overall I think that an E9x M3 with blower, coil-overs and BBK is a real bargain supercar, and they wont make these kinds of engines anymore so don't be in a rush to let it go!!

Really good points. It's not cheap, but at this point it's good bang for the buck all thing considered.

The power delivery between your 650 M3 and 911 Turbo S must be entirely different. I imagine the 911 gives a better sense of acceleration? I'm absolutely loving the VT2-625 kit and it really has transformed this car into a beast with 100% of the drive-ability of the stock format. The revs keep coming and the power keeps rising giving you an exhilarating feeling.

What is it about the M3 that people like more over the Turbo S? I've always drooled over a modded 911 Turbo s and thought about moving into that car, but went with a supercharger instead =).

I would keep your E92 M3, supercharge it and make it the exact car that you want, but to each their own.

Good choice.

Yes, the acceleration on the 911 is brutal. Because of it's rear-engine configuration and AWD, all 700+ HP get to the ground at any speed. No M3 can do that. On my vBox I've been recording ridiculous acceleration figures. 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds. 0-100 mph in 5.8. Forward G-forces of 1.5. WTF my body starts to hurt. The M3 provides a different kind of fun. It's cool to go WOT and have the G-forces increase as RPMs rise to the point where the tires start spinning. And that sound. That's a pretty amazing feeling. And people like the fact that the just does everything really well.

after two years i got a bit bored with my M3, and then put on the ESS VT1-550 kit, and I'm in love with it all over again.

I plan on upgrading to the 625 kit once i get a bit bored again
