Unhappy Sold the M3 - A little sad

So this was a tough decision for me since the car was an absolute blast to drive but I felt the exact same way when i sold my E46 M3. It is time to move to a F80 so this had to go. Was an awesome awesome car Will be missed.

Here are a few pictures of how she looked and then the last 3 pictures of the new owner driving away

i had similar pics when the owner drove off with my e46m. It was too hurtful, i deleted them.

I understand the premise behind ED, but idk how so many can wait so long for their car.

That's a hell of a wait. What are you going to do in between?

I haven't decided what will happen to my E92 yet in 2 years, but I cringe at the idea of having to sell her.

Why did you sell it now if you aren't getting the f80 for another year?

True. But you would assume that someone who can afford an e90 m3 and soon an F80 m3 can prob swallow a few grand in depreciation for the pleasure of continuing to drive their car

Bearings, I hate that this car has crap bearing clearance.
Kinda ruining the fun of ownership.

I understand the premise behind ED, but idk how so many can wait so long for their car.
This was a decision based on the following:

1) I could wait till summer next year and sell the car with 65-70k miles and no warranty OR I could sell it now at 50k miles with warranty and pocket the $40.5k to build up towards the piggy bank for the F80

2) I don't drive the car during the snow days or anytime there is salt on the road so it will sit around for the next 4-5 months and depreciate.

3) Sell it now while it's 5 years old or wait a year and lose 8-10k?

This might not seem logical to some folks but the fact is that I could not justify losing more money on the car. I got a really good price for my car so I let it go... $40,500 for a 2009,51k miles in pretty much the stock condition except the diffuser and the springs. I could not pass this up as BMW's (M3's or not) and all German cars are much less desirable after 50k miles. They don't hold their value like Japanese cars. Also I wanted to sell my 10-13k worth of mods while they are still worth what they were all these years with the E9X. Now with the F8X out, the exhaust and other mods will only get cheaper. With the mods sold I will have 50k+ in hand to put towards the F80. I could buy it now but I never buy the first year model ( look back at the 2001 E46 and the 2008 E9X) besides I want to do a ED All in all I am happy with my decision. Just sad to see the car go, that's all.

The point is that it it's in the winter. There is no fun driving with icy roads and salt on the road. Please let's not turn this thread into why I sold the car so early. I was just sharing what I felt today. Will get over it by tomorrow . And 8-10 grand is not a few grand for me. I didn't see my car selling for more than 30k next year with 65k+ miles. For the record, buying the F80 new is quite a stretch for me. I am by no means rich like some of the folks on this forum. I DIY pretty much everything and that really helps towards affording this car. Just want to experience ED once in my lifetime

it's about $1,500 - $2500 of depreciation a year on a E90 M3 (depending on the vintage). But to me $2k is a lot of money regardless of whether I can afford it or not. It's all about your perspectives on money!

True upto 50-55k mikes but after that it depreciates a lot faster and certainly becomes less desirable to prospective buyers. If I go by 2k per year on depreciation, there is absolutely no way I could have gotten $38.5k with 65k miles next year.

I see you made the right choice to sell now than later. We all have previous cars that makes us cry a little inside but usually they were sacrificed for something better. I'm sure the car went to a good home.

Don't worry too much about the wait, take the time to really get to know the car as much as you can from the forums and who knows, the f80 might be LCI next year. Plus waiting makes getting it that much more sweeter!
