chatter when releasing clutch anyone?
So, lately I'm noticing a small chatter when releasing the clutch pedal. The noise is minimal and can be heard only in the garage as it ''echoes'' a bit. clutch kit was replaced at 26k miles and I barely have 29.5k on it at the moment. Is this a common issue or it's something serious and should be taken care of ?
Thanks in advance |

I have it on my 135i and my buddy has it on his M3. It happens mainly when the transmission is cold. There's a post out there where one of BMW's master mechanics said it's totally normal on a BMW with a dual mass flywheel. Mine became more noticeable after installing a clutch stop and UCP clutch pedal.

^ WHS, dual mass...
Why'd you replace original clutch so early? |

Was driving and the clutch suddenly felt like it dropped a bit and then the usual smell. Damaged the thrust bearing and it's from there that I got obsessed that the clutch was making noises so replaced the entire clutch kit but the noise still remained, maybe a tad less louder. Thing is that this chatter is still heard after a days drive and that is mainly my concern.

Not to be funny or anything... but do you know how to drive a clutch car? Do you ride the clutch pedal at all? Sounds like either your riding/slipping the clutch or the new clutch wasn't installed correctly. Maybe take it back to your shop. ?

I have an early ep80 with a manual as a DD and this too so I guess yes I know how to drive a clutch car I don't think that it was mainly my fault as I only thrashed the car once or twice so no big deal on that. thing is that I didn't know what the previous owner did as I bought the car after 24k miles of driving.

If the clutch was replaced with a stage 2 clutch or a single mass flywheel, you will have chatter when releasing and also sometimes a small whine when running at idle. This is normal with a single mass lightweight flywheel as well as an intermediate and/or race clutch. If you replaced the clutch with a stock clutch, it could be that it is heat soaked. Hope this helps
