My wifes 335 became a Submarine last Night
We had a huge storm come through last night here in Toronto & somehow why wife managed to try to drive through 1.5 feet of water close to the house. As she was practicing for Submarine duty she thought her car being German she could make it home with no problem but unfortunately the U335 was not rigged for submerging so she barely got to the edge of the puddle as it stalled. The engine is locked so I imagine it sucked water in the intake and is now pooched! The dealer says more than likely it will get written off by the insurance as they do want the liability of repairing it with all the electronics that these BMW's have nowdays and an engine change can easily run $25000-30000 which is well over the writeoff amount on a 2011 335is cab.

Remember that is Canadian retail. But reality is that I do not want a car that we own to have a $20000 + Carproof that must be declared when it is sold.

I guess you just have to get her a M4 cab now.

So what you are saying is the 335 Cab is not going to feature in the remake of The Hunt for Red October?
Anyway, damn, that would suck. Hadn't heard you got hammered with such a storm out there. anyway, maybe you can get a 'very generous deal' like your fellow Torontonian here? http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/08...ew-sports-car/ (though you might need more PR....your wife doesn't also happen to write a column for the post like that guy, does she? )

I guess we will go out shopping tomorrow for an SUV that must be a diesel.I already have a 2015 Cayenne Diesel that is being shipped next week and to be I think this should be the one that she drives till spring. and then get a new car then. The 2015 Cayenne is much upgraded and should be a easier resale in the spring than the other German Diesel SUV's that are presently on sale here. |

My wife had a similar issue last night. She was driving home in her BMW X6 and, on a dark side street, in advertently slushed through maybe 18-24" of deep water as well. Instant CEL came on, with a "Engine Misfire Cylinder 3" code. When she brought it home, I let it dry off...and luckily was able to clear the code and all was well.

Even if they fix everything, you don't want it.

The insurance settled today for a satisfactory amount.I have to credit RBC Insurance for really fast & good service on this incident. We have an 2015 X3 2.8d coming which should be here shortly to replace the 335is cab for at least the winter.

that's quick.
Usually insurance companies will low ball your car value and it would be up to the policy holder to fight for a fair settlement value which in most cases, both parties will have to be settled by an arbitration process. |

They came up with an amount that was in the high end of 2011 335is Cabs listed in Canada and I had done my research to know what was acceptable.I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of hassle to say the least.

I was ready to kill her initially till I cooled down but the reality is her car/her insurance and she was not hurt and it worked out OK with the insurance. We were not the only ones that had issues on Thursday night with the weather.
