Oil Pressure Gauge

Has anyone installed an oil pressure gauge in their M3? With all of the bearing talk and switching oil viscosities I would think this would be a common mod.

I have. I find 10-60 and 10-40 are almost the same, but my bearing tolerances are wider than stock.

At cold startup pressure is about 85-90psi

Yes it's quite easy with the oil pressure adapter block from IND or I believe EAS sells them. It allows retention of the stock pressure switch as well as the pressure sending unit.

I have installed one. It's nice to have to see the oil pressure. Maybe even an indicator when the rod bearings are going? When I first switched over to 0-40, oil pressure after fully warmed up at idle was at 38 psi. Now it's at 30 psi. I wonder if that's an indication that I need to change out my rod bearing soon. Thoughts?

Post a pic of your setup under the hood.

I used the MS distribution block and run a line off of it to the front on the side of the radiator fan. The oil pressure sensor is mount vertically as recommended and I have rubber tubing protecting/cushioning it from shock/vibration. I doubt it's my setup problem? I'll get some pics up. Oil pressure at idle was at 42 psi with 10-60. Then it was around 38 psi for 0-40 and was very stable for like a good 18k miles. It's the last 7k miles or so that I noticed the oil pressure started dropping. There is no oil leak in my setup. Engine also seem to run hotter than before. I noticed the oil temp would go over 210 easily if I am going up hill on the freeway at 70-75 mph 6th gear where as it never did that before. I don't think I have seen the oil temp go over the 210 mark after I switched to 0-40 until recently (the last 7k miles or so). Outside temp is not hot either, only around 84. I pay very close attention to my car so these are the things I noticed. Would be interesting to see what my rod bearing looks like. Car is at 83k miles. Oil pressure gauge was setup at 60k miles. Oil change at 7500 interval with 10-60 and 5k with 0-40.

im running a AEM oil preasurre gauge, i had to get the adapter from Ind since the oil preasure sensor that comes in the aem gauge does not fit because of T clamping.

Yah at cold start i see around 80~90 , when its warmed, it sits at idle at 45~

The P3 vent gauge will allow you to have 2 additional inputs and set values.

Anyone happen to remember the size of the nut for the OEM oil pressure sensor?

Edit: found it on another BMW forum...24mm.

Has anyone else done this mod? Not that it's even necessary for most cars, but sure would be cool to have....oil pressure, water temp, and dipstick are things I want to install somehow.

GM

The price has come down quite a bit.

Coolant temp can be read via the OBDII port using a P3 vent gauge.
