Road noise from passenger door - illusion or issue?
A week back or so I started to notice rather loud road noise even at slow speed that I didn't notice before. It doesn't mean it wasn't there but I can't recall it being so directionally emitted from the passenger door. I don't hear it from the driver side door which is strange since it's so close.
Does anyone else notice this? Is it just an acoustic illusion created in the cabin that it seems to emit from the passenger door? |

Check to make sure the window is all the way up. Maybe the button got bumped. I know that sounds stupid, but happened to me before.

Good tip and I had that happen before but not this time. I made sure the windows are all the way up all around and the doors properly closed. I also quickly checked the seals but couldn't see anything unusual. Strange.

I think I have that noise. Is it coming from the rear right passenger door? It is a buzzing noise not exactly a rattle.

I'm quite sure it's road noise, it starts at around 20 mph and is much louder on rough Tarmac. I'm starting to think that maybe I have something stuck in the window seal preventing the window to close tightly or pushing the seal sideways and allowing noise to come through. I'll check it tomorrow when it's light. Run a dull blade through the length of the seal like a spatula or something.

The weird part is I definitely don't remember it being as loud during ED. Maybe it's because the roads we are driving on are shit?

I didn't have time to use a blade to check the window seal this morning but I did run the passenger window up and down about 10 times and now ~50% of the noise is gone. Must be something with the seal, either something is/was stuck or it's been getting bent, out of shape or place.

I tried driving on the same street when the noise was there, then later i drive again on the same street and no noise! Just to confirm it is a hum/droning vibration coming from the rear right passenger door area....

Audio Error Potential
Based on the known fact that noise is piped into the cabin I would look into the speakers and or your audio settings. I am not yet familiar to the what's, why's and how the system works, but I would place it on your list of potential suspects.

Are you saying that BMW might be piping wind noise into the cabin? Guess I hadn't thought about that one. |

doesn't bother me, but it is on the cusp of being acceptable imo, but on the right side of that line. I had an old g37 and 911 that gave a new meaning to the words "road noise". unbelievable in those two cars
