Talking Anything not to like about supercharging?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a ESS 550 kit. Is there anything I should know before I do this?

I have not seen one thread about these kits doing something bad. Other than chewing up tires and needing the spark plugs changed more often, what else do I need to know?

Can any current or past owner share anything I might want to know?

Thanks!

Did you get 625 to track or just to have it?

I can do either kit, but since I never track, I figured I do the 550.

These kits don't shine at the track. They shine on highway runs . I would go 620 right off back. Many guys upgrade.

I actually bought it cuz, yeah there will be a few highway runs! I love to drag race (legally) I've done it a few dozen times in this car... so I'm for sure doing that! And I plan to hit up the track at least a few times a year.

Shorter answer
This is my daily so both for on and off track.

ESS Vt2-625 here and I couldn't be happier with the kit. The car is an animal especially with the DCT tune.

One thing to know before supercharging, prepare to fall in love with your new powerband, you'll become addicted to the +5000rpm zone!!

You'll want to mash the gas down more frequently

Heat Soak on the track and an extra 50 to 100 lbs (can't remember the weight) on the front of the car. I wouldn't get one for track use. Awesome on the street.

Just close your eyes, dream about Santa, and write the check for a 625 kit…..the intercooler is nice to give you a bit more time on track before heat soaking, and the extra power is always fun. You won't regret having the extra hp.

I have had a blower on my car for three years, and done 70+ track days with it. The power is intoxicating and never gets old. Three years into it, and I still get a smile on my face when I jam the gas. It just doesn't get old.

Just do it, I have the 625 and when I turn all the traction control off I giggle like a little girl.. which is like every morning haha.
Yes you will eat up gas, go through sparkplugs every 15k, need to change oil every 5k or so oh and murder your rear tyres. Oh and don't forget to change you SC oil every 7500 miles, (2k the first change)
Also change out your rod bearings with WPC treated ones while your engine is being worked on, really only pay for the extra parts that way.

Other than that your golden unless the slight SC whine is something you wouldn't like, after about 1500 miles it breaks in and gets loud enouf to hear over exhaust.

This man speaks the truth.

Most guys that get the 550 systems typically end up upgrading to the 625 shortly thereafter.

Thanks Gentleman. The 625 is tempting, but I'd rather have a lower boost application.

One thing that NO one told me when I almost purchased a super charger for my 2011 DCT, was that you could NO longer use the kick down shift feature. At the time, I used that feature all the time (highway, passing, for fun) so loosing that kind of killed the whole SC thing for me. So much so, I actually went out and got a 6MT next (not just because of the SC, but it played a part. I like 6MT more too).

I am concerned about my bearings... My car had 67 miles on it when I purchased it. Since it was a 6MT, I can only assume it was beat on for test drives. Especially since the sale guy cared less how I drove it when I came to buy it.

So how hard is it to have the bearing checked? How much more will this add to the cost??

We can start with an an oil analysis, I have some kits here if you'd like to drop by and pick one up. We also perform oil changes as well.

How long does it take to get answers on the oil Tom?

And have you guys installed any kits with the P3 gauge as the boost gauge? I have the P3 gauge and would like to use its boost feature.

We don't install many 650 systems in SoCal since we're limited to only 91 at the pump. Most are either installing 625 kits or eventually upgrading to the 625.

The system hardware among the intercooled kits is similar with variances in pulley size, injectors and upgraded software depending on the power level you are looking for. If going with a non-intercooled kit, there is a bit more work as a new intake and intercooler and pump will need to be fitted.
