More pronounced debris feel and sound from the undercarriage than e92/90 on snow?
Hi there,
Just picked up a mineral grey with SO interior M3 and I am still in the break in period. I am sticking to the break in process in the manual keeping revs low below 4 and speed below ~75. I live around the DC metro area and we have been getting some snow from dusting to 2 inches since the new year. The roads are filled with salt, sand, and the usual debris. Naturally I am pampering the car and only driving it on clear days. I have also washed it by hand twice so far. I have been driving the car since early January and I have noticed a more pronounced debris feel and sound from the undercarriage. Neither my 2 previous cars M3s sounded like this, its as if there is less insulation. Am I imagining or anyone else felt this? Maybe its the new car protective symptom? Anyone experienced the same coming from a e90/92? |

From what I read, The suspension is bolted differently to the chassis in the F82 than on the E92. Most reviews have mentioned more road noise. Maybe someone more technically knowledgeable than me can chime in.

There's more cabin noise in general than the E9X M3. Likely a combination of less/thinner insulation and how the rear suspension is fitted as mentioned. It's quite loud but more than acceptable.

Driving on salted and sanded roads is horrible. The tires pick everything up ang peppers it against the wheel wells AND into the aluminum brake shield giving that wonderful screeching noise

Was the sound a pipe, or an exhaust tip?

are you using snow tires? If so, maybe it's related to the tread pattern and its ability to pick up more debris.
I think anything undercarriage-related now has a baseline thread for reference :-/

I would agree with your statement. I owned an E92 M3 convertible and now own the F82 M4 convertible and I found the same higher noise in cabin due to road debris. I have not used the car in the snow, and don't plan to. I had 19" wheels on the M3 and have 19" on the M4. Overall just any small pebbles and debris on the road do seem to make more noise in the cabin. Nothing I've worried about yet, but a true statement in my experienced nevertheless.

You just confirmed that I am not insane as my wife said, maybe paranoid...
I am on snow tires, but i dont think its a tire issue. It seems between the subframe bolting directly and less insulation you feel the debris more. Summer will come eventually cant wait |
