Wrinkes/Creases on Leather Dashboard
Upon picking up my car at the BMW Welt back in November, I noticed that my leather dashboard has some uneven surfaces. It looks like they are wrinkles/creases? Is there anyway to fix this? I reported this to BMWNA to get it checked at the port, and as figured, they blamed it as the "natural structure of the leather".
I find this unacceptable given that I paid for this option only to receive this (Sorry, iPhone pic). Call me OCD but this bugs the s*** out of me: Last edited by jayyp; 01-21-2015 at 09:34 AM.. |

My leather dash in the X5 M looks better than that, and it's 4 years old.

The full merino leather on the dash is very taut. There really is no cushion to it (as opposed to the M5/M6). I had some small defects on my M4 too.

I don't think I'll care about that... It's so minuscule, and it's a natural product. Natural products are bound to have some flaws and imperfections. Just like some of you complaining about the way the seats wrinkle, but in reality that's just what leather seats do.
I don't think I'll lose any sleep over it.

I got in my car this morning and noted how after three months, 2000 miles and numerous friends test drives the interior looks flawless. I wouldn't worry about that slight wrinkle, I really had to strain my eyes to find it.
When you get a car like this, we call become OCD. I thought I had an issue with the clutch pedal until I sat in KennyPowers M3. We are hypersensitive....and that's ok.

I have no wrinkles or flaws in my car on the dash. I did have a weird issue on my back seat where it had a few big wrinkles and a rough patch. My dealer ordered me a new seat back for the rear.

Sounds like you need to buy a Rolls-Royce. They only use leather from bulls because they don't have any stretch marks like cow hides. They are also raised in cold climates to avoid bug bites. It's an OCD persons sweetest dream!

BMWNA agreed to do so? Looks like it'll come back though from the seatbelt pushing up against it. My CA said he's going to try to fight with BMWNA or something to repair/replace the leather on mine. Not sure how it's going to turn out though since the VPC said there's no reason for repair.

Brand new leather should not be creased or wrinkled. If it's stretched taut, it should be taut. However, in the Ops original picture, I'd say leather is a natural product and normal natural flaws can occur (though they can be sanded out during the treatment phase for the most part).
My bigger issue with BMW's full leather dash is that it shows puckering at tight stretches already in some cars I've seen. Leather should NOT be puckered around a tight bend when it's new, because it will be under a lot of strain as it goes through cold and hot spells and dries out some, and those puckers will develop into creases/cracks. |

This initially sounds like BS but I'd bet my house you are correct. This type of stuff matters to people that spend 300K+ on a car. Thanks for wasting my next 1/2 hour looking up RR leather requirements.
