ecu tune with x pipes
Hey guys. I have always enjoyed my car stock without any modifications or tunes to purely enjoy it for what it is and what it is meant to be. However, I have been considering tuning it lately with a couple of starter mods like the ecu tune with Macht Schnell X pipes. As just mentioned, I have decided to go with Macht Schnell for x pipes to couple with the OEM mufflers. I understand there are many experienced tuners out here that have used different software such as ESS and BPM. Can you share your experiences with different software for this particular set up? Many thanks in advance.

I would say 60% comes for deleting the cats and the rest 40% comes from the tune, and the car will rev more linear.

Theres a very high likely hood that this thread is gonna go bad so before its closed or whatever, I had the BPM tune and loved it. It completely changed the car and Id hit up Mike Benvo for info on it. I had Macht Schnell test pipes with it instead of X pipes (I had Fabspeed X pipes) and the car was the best Iv ever driven it. Im back to stock now cause my lease is ending but I miss it.

Go with the BPM tune, I had it before I supercharged and switched to the ESS tune that came with it. As anyone will tell you Mike is super easy to work with and will take you through it step by step on the phone.
I very much miss my BPM tune, throttle response and steering feel were delightful.

You'd be surprised how well this platform can adapt to mods with updated factory software and a good X-Pipe/Intake/Pulley combo. Software will tie everything together nicely afterwards and get rid of CEL.

Not wanting to speak for anyone else, but I doubt many folks have had multiple tunes for their M3 from different vendors so comparing the effects of tune is probably a lot of conjecture.
I think what differentiates the vendors that provide services for us is mainly the customer service experience. I've had interactions with two different vendors that both provide a similar service (DCT and ECU Tune). Though both were good experiences, the BPM experience was a cut above the other. An example is, I had delays both times connecting to their VMs for install due to issues on my end. I was essentially late for both appointments. One vendor texted me, 'you're late for your appointment you need to reschedule' The other vendor called me to say, 'sorry you had issues getting connected. I can get you in at this time if that works for you' Guess which vendor was BPM? During the appointment when I actually got connected and the updates were executed, one vendor managed it via text message while he completed the update. The other vendor called me on my cell phone and we BS'd about M3's while the load took place. He also answered my questions as the process was in flight. Guess which vendor was BPM? |

They're all canned tunes. They're all gonna be the same overpriced stuff.
The cheapest and only one I lnke actually dynoing the car is frank smith of tech tuning. |

I have both ESS and BPM tunes, BPM is hands down just better in every way. More options, super easy and quick to get installed. Mike will pull over on the side of the road to speak with you on the phone.
Also BMP keeps working on new options/tweaks which you can update at anytime. Got to say the biggest thing I miss about my BMP tune over ESS is the steering response and throttle response "switched to ESS after I got their SC" Is a 1,000 bucks pricy for a tune? Sure, but then everything for this car is pricy and I cant really think of anything you can get for 1k that will change your car as much as a good tune "besides test pipes for 200 bucks"

Mmm no I really never switched out my options much but you can, I was referring more to anything new they develop being easy to get. Think they just did a new software update as well that you simply download.

Thanks for such wonderful inputs. I have decided that I am going to go with BPM for tuning.
This M3 is my own summer ride. My wife drives a 2012 528 XI which I would not dare to tune since it is great in every way; fuel economy, power, comfort, ride quality and everything else. |

yes, 1k for a canned tune is nuts. There's great tuners out there actually individually dyno tuning each car making great power, good rep, and much cheaper also.
