Ferrari V8 Noise from M3
Hi folks!
I am just curious if anyone has seen an exhaust system which sounds similar to a f360 or f430 which has a very raspy exhaust note? I have looked at the exhaust threads but I cannot hear a system which has a very high pitched note as they are all deep toned or not far off stock. I am just re-searching right now to see if anyone has found a system that's close to the Prancing Horse V8 sound for an M3. Thanks |

Easier to get a Ferrari..? Oh, but a bit more cash on the table.
Don't think its possible the make the S65 sound like a Ferrari mate, but the noise it does make isn't too bad either is it now!? |

Well, the Ferrari and the M3 have completely different engines. One is a flat plane engine and another is a cross plane engine (google the difference)
I have an Active Autowerke Exhaust and i think it's similar or as close you can get to the sound you are looking for. Check out Remus Race and UUC Corsa also. If you want LOUD, a valvetronic exhaust can produce the sound you want as well. Kreissieg, RPI etc. I would stay away from Gintani, Akra, Borla as those sound American. Of course sound is subjective, but that's my opinion. |

You wont be able to replicate the sound of the Ferrari V8 with the S65 due to the fact that the Ferrari engine has a flat plane crank and the S65 has a cross plane. This results in different firing order and different exhaust scavenging.
In my opinion, the most exotic sounding exhaust for the M3 is the Kreissieg. There are a number of videos of the Kreissieg exhaust on here and youtube, but this captures the sound nicely in a tunnel: Last edited by OneMmmm; 01-30-2015 at 01:46 PM.. |

Catless xpipe and stock rear or mpe I'd hight pitched, beautiful raspy scream. It's not exactly from outside but from inside it sounds very identical to f430 I've driven.especially with drop in fikter aiding to induction sound

But yeah, this exhaust or a keiesseig I would say. As others stated, they have different designs and will never sound exactly alike. But they both can scream up in the revs. |

Thanks alot!! Very surprised myself. I LOVE the way it sounds, it really is unique and very quiet inside but loud outside (running no cats). I'm running stock x pipe now so it's a tad quieter.

Funny, I've been around a lot of cars with different exhausts and none I would pay big money for as they are all variations of the same noise. I'd rather spend my money on power or other mods.

That or figure out how to modify crank to a flat plane. Cheers, e46e92

A matter of personal preference. To me Kreisseg on M3 still doesn't sound anywhere close to F430.
You just can't replicate the short exhaust route. F430 valves are programmed to flick open in less than a second once it hits target exhaust pressure values. This is what makes it go from quiet to loud in less than a second as well. Kreisseg, IPE, Capristo, vacuum driven valves (with accumulator) for our M3s take a good 1.5-2 secs to open. |

I have the full Evolve Valvetronic system and love it. One of the best sounds in any metric; with the top down it is very important not to have something that drones or is intrusive (unless you want to with the valves open) and this has fit the bill.
