Not sure what's the point of sliding around in M4, other than justifying the 3850 EUR price tag. Cars barely use any power during these slides. Tap the gas and the rear is coming around, DSC on or off. A bit more tip in needed if DSC is on, but will still slide.
Just give me a deserted snowy/icy parking lot or a strip, a 320xi with all seasons or 320i with spiked winters, and I'll keep the 3850 EUR, thank you Last edited by PawnStar; 03-08-2015 at 11:58 PM.. |

So much fun, snow/icedrifting.
Very well organised this training camp/school I guess. But in this footage some gopros mounted on the sides/front/back of the cars don't get me excited at all. What do you actually see? No sense of some speed imho. Why no in-car cameras showing the driver steering/ opposite lock or much more from the (out)side showing the M4s drifting/sliding by? Thanks for sharing anyway. I believe the intent is to instruct those who wish to own a high performance BMW M how to best control it in winter conditions. It is true these maneuvers could be done in a 320i xDrive as well, but then so could they in an SAV for that matter. So its relative. Naturally the M will have the higher learning curve of the three, so it is a matter of cutting to the chase if you will. Once you can handle the M, you can most probably handle any other car without issue as well.

How much for the snowplow aero spoiler upfront? I could use one of those on my block.

I want to know where to get one of those snow spoilers as well. I do this kind of thing every 2 weeks, and in one of the events I ripped out my passenger side grill after tagging some snow and a pylon.
For anyone that wants to have some fun, or has to drive in winter conditions for half the year, I highly recommend doing something like this in your M. While you won't be winning any races in your car, it's great fun and gets you familiar with how the car is balanced and setup (oversteer is fun!). 3850 Euro seems a bit excessive to do this, but if you look at your local car clubs they may be doing events for much cheaper. For comparisons sake, I do a local ice racing / rally-x event here on the frozen lakes for $40, and its well worth every penny. Here's an in car video from the event yesterday. |

I don't know why M GmbH allowed you to take this video.
I hear taking video is prohibited in this training at Arjeplog and you can only bring back the video v-box data recorded in your USB drive. |

I did that a couple weeks ago in the dc suburbs. Nokian tires and abandoned streets. My wife was amazed that I was so willing to volunteer to run errands in the terrible weather.
