Smoked / tinted tailights on Sakhir Orange M3

Hey guys just posting this for reference as I know there aren't many pics of it floating around. I think maybe just that one gray m4 where they are dark.

I had my tails smoked last week. I know lots of people don't like it. Personally I only don't care for it when it's very dark. An if I'd chosen any other color I prolly would not have done it. But with SO sometimes the taillight a can sort of get lost in the paint and be hard to see the lines. So I just wanted to break up the monotony a bit.

Those of you familiar with the 1 series community know what blacklines are an that was my reference point for theses. Just a very light tint so jus notice it looks a bit different than stock. At night it tends to look darker but in sun it's clear to see they aren't.

I go back and forth. In that bottom image, it looks quite dark, which I'm not a fan of... but it looks fine in the first images.

Personal taste.

But I definitely see what you mean about the lines getting lost in the taillights

Obviously, there's no right or wrong with something subjective like this, but in my seat I have the opposite logic of you.

I've never considered the taillights as much to show off. They've obviously come to that since govt regulations require them, but on a different planet, I assume designers would minimize them. So for me it's like when everyone was getting clear tail lights... I understood, and thought they looked kinda cool on silver or white, but not red.

Same goes for the trucks with the chrome gas cap covers.

I think light smoke/tint looks great...however I have wondered about the legality, say you were rear ended... could the person claim that they couldn't see you were braking until it was too late because you had modified tail lights that are not DOT compliant? Same thing goes for all those people I see who drive around with one working brake light....

I know this is an old post, but those look great! Where did you get your tail lights tinted? Or did you do it yourself?
