AWD HellCat!!

This thing will be a stoplight Monster

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Will Get The Hellcat Engine

"Rumors have been flying ever since the Hellcat powertrain arrived in the Challenger and Charger that FCA would use the 707-horsepower V-8 in other products across its lineup, with the Jeep Grand Cherokee leading the list. Well the rumors are growing in intensity.

You’ll likely recall FCA trademarking the Trackhawk name, a moniker that complements Jeep’s Trailhawk name. Like the Trailhawk is off-road, the Trackhawk will be specially built for handling the track and devouring its competition in waves of tire smoke.

The Grand Cherokee is no stranger to powerful engines. It currently offers a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 that kicks out 475 horsepower. Badged with the SRT name, the Jeep combines plenty of power with room for the whole family and their luggage. The Grand Cherokee makes the transition from off-roader to track beast quite well thanks to its platform, which it’s shared with the Mercedes-Benz M-Class.

Rumors also suggest FCA will strip the Jeep of its SRT badges since Dodge has exclusive rights to the Street and Racing Technology brand. That’s where the Trackhawk name comes into play.

There will likely be two version of the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk – the halo model will be the Hellcat-powered version that will feature that same 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 making 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Below that will be the 475-horse version that is currently the SRT. The Hellcat version will certainly receive upgraded powertrain components, including a revised AWD system that’s rated for such abuse.

Expect the Grand Cherokee Hellcat to hit 60 mph in roughly four seconds with the quarter mile passing in the 12-second range. Though nothing is confirmed from FCA, the Hellcat’s third iteration should hit dealers by mid-2016."

Yes all the Jeep SRT Fanboys are rejoicing. But as always once at higher speeds they will lose to anything with a lighter weight and better aerodynamics. You nailed though, on the streets at stoplights, they will be a force to be reckoned with. Then again, I can imagine a future AWD M car beating this Jeep easily.

Garage List
I know what I'm doing with my RR Sport next year

The lines look pretty good in the picture. I may need this to replace the RR next year. But if it's not any good off road then probably not, it seems maybe it's not for off road after reading the article.

I'm one of those fanboys lol . The Gen 1 SRT8 Jeep was an avant garde raw beast. The 6.1 N/A Hemi and 3.73 gears made it a formidable foe for almost any car that happened to be next to it at a stoplight. It's 4.5 second 0-60 time was good enough to keep-up with E60 M5 or F360 Modena, for example. We have to remember that a decade ago, 4 second 0-60's and 400+ HP numbers were close to supercar status (now they are normal, lol). Of course it was a 5000 pound brick, so when turns or high speeds came into play the fun was over for the Jeep.

10 years ago the Srt8 Jeep rebirthed the performance SUV market that the short-lived Typhoons/Syclones pioneered in the early 1990's. In 2006, nobody had a performance SUV (the ML55 was branded as one, but really wasn't), but soon Chevy (Trailblazer), BMW (X5/X6 M) Range Rover, (Sport) and MB (ML63) all followed in the footsteps of the Jeep.

I'm sure the next-gen M5 will massacre this HellCat Jeep, as will many future models - that's the leapfrogging we've come to expect from automakers. But as of now, the HellCats will have a few years to torment the German (and other American) automakers.

I know exactly what you are talking about. A night I met one of these monsters (while driving my 2013 F13 650i) at stoplight... I was shocked how it jumped off the line...

I believe the first SRT8 Jeep came out in 2007? Porsche had long had the Cayenne Turbo in 04-05 market, Mercedes had the ML55 AMG came in the early 2000s, IDK why that wouldn't count though... I definitely agree it really kicked off around 07 as far as performance SUVs, but they weren't the first to tackle that segment.

Then again, there are reports of bone stock Audi RS7's doing 0-60 in only 3.2 seconds. I'm also sure that a Tesla P85D will simply giggle if they pull up to a new Hellcat Jeep at a stop light.

Wk1 srt8 debuted as a 2006 model year. Touché on the cayenne tt, but I wouldn't consider a fringe vehicle for one-percenters to be a market-definer. Jeep broght the same performance for a 1/3 of the price.

Nothing about the ml55 was performance-minded lol - look up the numbers. Nothing but an AMG badge...

This is a 70k suv lol. Funny how you compare 100k sedans but ok. Yes, there is always something faster, but I reckon there will not be a faster BMW SUV for quite sometime . Time for Germans to play catchup again, first the Cts-v and now this. ouch

Not sure why sedans are being compared to this SUV.

The only car worth comparing to this SUV is the M4. <--- Period.

700hp with awd , How do you anticipate a 560-570hp x5m with similar weight or even less weight 'easily' beating it?

The new S63 engine on X5M, X6M is producing over 600 HP, 600 lb-ft (real world numbers) and these cars can go 0-60 in 4.0 second.

Meh, not worried. ~1000 hp Trailblazer SS should take care of buisness.

For acceleration, My money is on the 700 HP truck with 2l more displacement and 650ft/lbs of torque. The official hp number for the new x5m is 567hp. We will see if and when it happens.

Well let's be clear here. The actual power and torque of current M5/M6 competition package (567HP/502lb-ft claimed by manufacturer) is 633 HP/ 576 lb-ft measured by Dinan. The new engine on X5M/X6M generates even 10% more torque so we should expect (as I said earlier) over 600 HP and TQ at crank, but this is not the only reason these cars are claimed to go 0-60 in 4.0 second. What is important is torque at wheel and not torque at crank. In order to know the torque at wheels you need to know the gear ratios. You cannot judge based on crank numbers...

For those wanting to tout BMW's conservative hp/tq figures, you ought to check out what the Hellcat is putting to the ground.

some of the conversions have that engine at 760-770 hp. THAT. IS. INSANE.

building a daily drivable AWD SUV that handles that is really crazy. hats off to Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler/Fiat... whatever.

Buddy of mine just got a Charger Hellcat...... its pretty nice. Dk blue, tan int. No, its not going to steal many M5 owners, but it sure is fun to drive......

What I like about this message board (M5 side) is that most of us know what's going on and we respect other brands achievements.

Hellcats are putting out about 638 rwhp. SUV will be fast. We know.

What most don't know is who king in BMW. -> M4.

I like this truck. I always give them a second look. I think theyre very cool and obviously very fast. That being said, I'd still rather have my wifes X6M over this any day. While this truck may or may not beat me at the stop light, i just dont care. I'd still rather be in the X6M when comparing the two.
